Venomoth

Venomoth, The Poison Moth Pokémon. It flutters its wings to scatter dustlike scales. The scales leach toxins if they contact skin. When it attacks, it flaps its large wings violently to scatter its poisonous powder all around. The powder on its wings is poisonous if it is dark in hue. If it is light in hue, it causes paralysis.

Overview

Prepare for a huge amount of bias. Venomoth is one of my favourite Pokémon, and in my opinion the greatest Quiver Dancer in the game. It doesn't have the sweeping power of Volcarona, but it does have a few things that make it amazing. Sleep Powder, Baton Pass, and a few awesome abilities that all work well. Venomoth is my favourite Baton Passer in the game, and for good reason. It can turn a good special sweeper into a game winner, and it can do this very easily. You can use it for utility, for sweeping, for setting up Toxic Spikes, Venomoth is surprisingly versatile.

Abilities

Shield Dust: Shield Dust is pretty much purely useful for Jirachi. What makes it so good is that there isn't a message that says “Shield Dust blocks this effect!”, so your opponent might not even realise you are running Shield Dust until it is too late and you have +3 Quiver Dance. It's also handy for blocking random freezes and what not.
Tinted Lens: mostly handy for the sweeper set, but it's a great ability regardless. Attacks that aren't very effective go up the ladder. So, 4x not very effective goes to 2x, and 2x not very effective goes to neutral. Considering Bug is pretty well resisted, this is a great ability for the moth.
Wonder Skin: you can dodge status inflicting attacks 50% of the time. Spore, Thunder Wave, Will-O-Wisp, that kind of thing. Pretty good.

Tinted Moth

- Quiver Dance
- Sleep Powder
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Ground] / Hidden Power [Fire] / Hidden Power [Rock]
Item Attached: Life Orb / Black SludgeV Ability: Tinted Lens
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

Quiver Dance to raises your Speed and Special Attack. Oh, and Special Defence. Sleep Powder to get more dances in or to cripple a counter. Bug Buzz is your main attack here, dealing great damage to everything but 4x resists. That's where your fourth move comes in. Hidden Power [Ground] deals with Heatran and scum, Hidden Power [Fire] kills Steels like Skarmory, Hidden Power [Rock] beats down Moltres and stuff like that.

Moth Passer

- Quiver Dance
- Sleep Powder
- Baton Pass
- Bug Buzz
Item Attached: Black Sludge
Ability: Shield Dust / Tinted Lens / Wonder Skin
EVs and Nature:
Evs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd or 252 HP / 228 Def / 28 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) / Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

Quiver Dance increases your Speed, Special Attack and Special Defence by +1, which any special sweeper would appreciate. Sleep Powder shuts down a counter or allows you to get some boosts in, or even safely Baton Pass your boosts away. Bug Buzz stops you from being Taunt bait, and if you opt for the offensive spread and Tinted Lens, you can deal some good damage by yourself.
Shield Dust allows you to counter Jirachi and stops random status effects from killing you. I'd only use it with the bulky spread. Tinted Lens is for the offensive spread. Wonder Skin can be used with either, but I'm not as much of a fan of it as I am of the other two.

Utility Moth

- Toxic Spikes
- Sleep Powder
- Roost
- U-turn / Bug Buzz
Item Attached: Black Sludge
Ability: Shield Dust
EVs and Nature:
Evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk) / Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) or Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) / Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

Sleep, entry hazards, recovery, nice resistances, it's a 10/10 set. Toxic Spikes can seriously ruin some teams, and free damage is never bad. Sleep Powder puts a Pokémon out of commision. Roost heals you by at least 50% of your max HP. U-turn gets you out of there and scouts, whereas Bug Buzz is slightly stronger.

EVs & Natures

Venomoth
If you want an offensive set, run 252 SAtk and 252 Spd. For a defensive set, I'd go for Defence, considering Venomoth's awesome Fighting resistance. 28 Speed allows you to outrun Garchomp after Quiver Dance.

Other Options

Choice, Agility, Energy Ball, Giga Drain, Psychic, Screech, Sludge Bomb, Stun Spore
Choice can be Specs or Scarf, but I'd rather go with Quiver Dance to get both boosts in one.
Agility is an alternative move to Quiver Dance if you wanted to pass just Speed.
Energy Ball is a special attack that could be used on a specs set.
Giga Drain is in the same place as Energy Ball.
Psychic is another alternative special attack.
Screech could be used for a physical set, but don't expect much.
Sludge Bomb is a strong STAB move that just isn't as good as Bug Buzz.
Stun Spore is a cool status inflicting attack that paralyses the opponent. If you want double status, go for it.

Double & Triple Battle Options

Not so good in doubles and triples as it doesn't add anything. All there is really is Rage Powder, and that isn't ideal on Venomoth regardless.

Partners

Special sweepers that appreciate a Speed and power boost are ideal. Latios, Latias, Heatran, Rotom-A, there are plenty of Pokémon to go with. You want to remove Skarmory, Heatran, anything that 4x resists your Bug Buzz. Run Magnezone and stuff that takes them out. Gliscor is a pretty big counter as it is immune to sleep thanks to Toxic Orb, and it KOs you easily with Acrobatics or Earthquake. Obviously removing the standard walls like Blissey and Chansey is important.

Countering Venomoth

Venomoth can be a pain to counter. As it can get status conditions in quickly due to Quiver Dance, your best bet here is to hit hard and hit fast. Pokémon with Insomnia, Natural Cure, Vital Spirit are good at resisting the one thing Venomoth is good at while ones with Magic Bounce such as Espeon can cause it to hurt itself. Steel-types and Flying-types like Skarmory can very easily counter Venomoth as well and putting in Fire-types like Heatran, Darmanitan etc. can hit Venomoth hard enough to do significant damage before it's too late
