Musharna

Musharna, The Drowsing Pokémon. The mist emanating from their foreheads is packed with the dreams of people and Pokémon. With the mist from its forehead, it can create shapes of things from dreams it has eaten. The dream mist coming from its forehead changes into many different colors depending on the dream that was eaten.

Overview

Musharna is blessed by its impressive defensive stats. It also has decent special attack, making Musharna a Pokemon that can take hits and dish out heavy hits in return. Thanks to this, Musharna has many roles it can play, including physical wall or sweeper. It is burdened by abysmal speed though, but its HP and defensive stats make up for it.

Abilities

Forewarn: This ability warns Musharna of its opponent’s highest base power move. Useful if you would want to know what your opponent is packing.
Synchronize: When an opponent inflicts Musharna with a status, the status is copied onto them. This ability is great because it catches opponents off guard but also is a good bluff to keep them from statusing your other Pokemon, since Musharna can switch right in.
Telepathy: With this, Musharna does not take damage from its allies attacks. This does not have a use in singles but it does in doubles or triples. It’s good there if you are using a move like surf or Earthquake.

Movesets

Per Chance to Dream

- Calm Mind
- Moonlight
- Psychic
- Heal Bell / Signal Beam
Item Attached: Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpD
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

This set has many uses. First and foremost though, it is a physical wall. Psychic is for main STAB for some damage against opponents, and Moonlight is for recovery to keep Musharna at a healthy HP. Calm Mind allows Musharna to become a special sweeper as well. This set is extremely versatile and since Musharna is very bulky, it works quite well and is known to be one of its most popular sets. Heal Bell allows Musharna to rid itself of the pesky toxic, and signal beam is for coverage against dark types that stop Musharna in its path.

Syncing the Game Sync

- Psychic
- Moonlight
- Thunder Wave / Baton Pass
- Heal Bell / Baton Pass
Item Attached: Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpD
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

The main purpose of this set is to allow Musharna to be a cushion for the many threats of the NU tier and above. It acts as support. Thunder Wave cripples any Pokemon that Musharna walls. It works well as Musharna is hard to take down with its great defenses. Moonlight is for survivability, and Heal Bell is as well, as it removes toxic from the picture. Psychic is good for doing some powerful STAB psychic damage. Baton Pass allows other teammates to switch in safely as it scouts opponent switch outs.

Other Options

Rest, Sleep Talk, Hypnosis, Psyshock, Shadow Ball, Protect
Hypnosis can be used over Thunder Wave. Sleep is a better status inflicted but there is a chance the opponent could wake up.
Protect can be used as a good scouting tool to see what the opponent will do against Musharna.
Psyshock acts like Psychic as Musharna's primary psychic STAB but Psyshock attacks an opponent's defense rather than special defense like Psychic does.
Rest allows Musharna to gain full health instantly. This works well for a wall, as being at full health makes its job easier.
Shadow Ball can be used as coverage against other psychic types.
Sleep Talk used with Rest allows Musharna to get the chance to attack while asleep.

Double & Triple Battle Options

Besides working really well as a physical wall, Musharna’s ability Telepathy makes it great to be on the doubles or triples field as it takes no damage from its allies. This is good because normally a pokemon would either have to take damage or waste its turn with a protect while its partner used a move like surf.

Partners

A Pokemon that could set up screens would be invaluable to Musharna as it makes Musharna a better physical wall with reflect up.

Countering Musharna

Despite being pretty much amazing with its great HP stat and defensive stats, dark type Pokemon stop Musharna in its tracks. Dark types would be immune to Psychic and if Musharna was to run signal beam, then it would be weak to toxic as Heal Bell is gone. Taunt is also a huge weakness to Musharna, as 3 out of the 4 moves become unusable. Misdreavus can use taunt and then take out Musharna with STAB Shadow Balls. Residual damage is also helpful as if Musharna is using a pivot strategy, it would be switching out a lot to support its teammates. This is where Stealth Rocks, Spikes and Toxic could each be very useful in wearing down Musharna’s health.
