Magmar

Magmar, The Spitfire Pokémon. In battle, it blows out intense flames from all over its body to intimidate its foe. These fiery bursts create heat waves that ignite grass and trees in the area. Found near the mouth of a volcano. This fire-breather's body temperature is nearly 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit. Its body always burns with an orange glow that enables it to hide perfectly amidst flames.

Battle Moveset

A Good Moveset for Magmar would have to be this:

Attacks:

Cross Chop
Thunderpunch
Flamethrower / Fire Blast
Hidden Power [Ice / Grass]

Items Attached:

Leftovers OR
Choice Band

Preferred Nature:

Mild

Strategy Using Magmar

Magmar, alongside Typholison, is UU's answer to Blaziken. Short of Cross Chop and it's Flame Body Trait (which won't be helping you much since Magmar's too brittle to take a physical hit) it hasn't got much to set it apart from them. It follows the usual "anti-wall" strategy like Blaziken and Typholision, hits Blissey and Snorlax with Cross Chop, hits Skarm and Weezing with Fire Blast or Flamethrower and hits Gyarados switch ins with Thunderpunch as well as Swampert of Salamence with the chosen Hidden Power. Will usually need some solid support from its team to take out bulky water types and a spinner to remove spikes (since Magmar is a hit and run Pokémon and will always be in-and-out).

Choice Band could be used over Leftovers to boost the power of Cross Chop, since you won't see much use from the Leftovers, short of cancelling out Sandstorm and healing off the occasional Ice Beam and Flamethrower.

EV Corner:

EVs: 66 Atk / 192 Spd / 252 SAtk
Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def)

Max special attack for obvious reasons and 270 speed for outrunning Adamant Heracross and other Pokémon lingering around that area.

EVs: 186 Atk / 72 Spd / 252 SAtk
Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def)

Same as above but a bit more Special Attack and enough speed to outrun Magneton and friends.

EVs: 54 Atk / 204 Spd / 252 SAtk
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)

Same as above except you outrun Salamence and friends, sometimes worth the loss of special attack to surprise it.

Strategy Against Magmar

Physical attacks on the switch in usually leave a dent, even Skarmory's Drill Peck will be a 3KO (provided it doesn't get Burned by Flame Body). Smartly predicted switches to Dugtrio will guarantee an OHKO. Salamence, Dragonite, Altaria (and Rayquaza if Magmar is being used in the Uber environment for some reason…) beat it if it hasn't got Hidden Power [Ice], Swampert does if it doesn't have Hidden Power [Grass] and most bulky waters who can shrug off Thunderpunch get rid of Magmar. Anythign faster than Magmar with Earthquake, Surf or Rock Slide will force a switch.

Contest Moveset

A good Contest Moveset for Magmar would have to be this for the Beauty Contest best with Modest, Mild, Rash or Quiet Nature:

Attacks:

Sunny day
Flamethrower
Hyper beam
Brick break

Items Attached:

Blue Scarf

Strategy Using Magmar

If you do the attacks in this following order you should have very few problems; 1st - Sunny day/Brick break, 2nd - Flamethrower, 3rd - Sunny day/Brick break, 4th - Flamethrower, 5th - Hyper beam
