Marill

Marill, The AquaMouse Pokémon. It's oil-filled tail acts much like a life preserver. If you see just its tail bobbing on the water's surface, it's a sure indication that a Marill is diving beneath the water to feed on aquatic plants. When fishing for food at the edge of a fast-running stream, it wraps its tail around the trunk of a tree. It's tail is flexible and configured to stretch. Its body is covered with water-repellent fur. Because of the fur, it can swim through water at high speed without being slowed by the water's resistance. The end of its tail serves as a buoy that keeps it from drowning, even in a vicious current.

Battle Moveset

A Good Moveset for Marill would have to be this:

Attacks:

Surf
Ice Beam / Toxic
Light Screen
Rest

Items Attached:

Leftovers

Preferred Nature:

Bold

Preferred Trait:

Thick Fat

Strategy Using Marill

Tanker Marill…with a lot of Defence and HP focus and Light Screen it could probably stand a fair few hits. Toxic can take out Water types while Ice Beam hits Grass types, Dragons and so on.

EV Corner:

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

Not particularly refined EVs but that's generally what you should be going for.

Other Optional Sets

Marill @ Choice Band
Trait: Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Focus Punch
- Return / Double-Edge
- Iron Tail / Brick Break / Hidden Power [Ghost] / Hydro Pump
- Iron Tail / Brick Break / Hidden Power [Ghost] / Hydro Pump

It has Huge Power and with Choice Band it'll do very respectable damage with Focus Punch, unfortunately the good part of it's physical move pool begins and ends with Focus Punch. Everything else is essentially filler.

Marill @ Salac Berry
Trait: Huge Power
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Brick Break / Return
- Substitute
- Belly Drum
- Hidden Power [Ghost]

With some Thunder Wave support it can work out but is of questionable worth in comparison to other Belly Drummers.

Other Optional Moves

Encore, Charm, Perish Song, Protect, Seismic Toss. Encore is a particularly cool move that has a lot of potential when used correctly. Charm messes up most physical sweepers. Perish Song is cool but very difficult to pull off successfully and is usually relegated to a phazer move. Seismic Toss is a constant damage move that is useful for Pokémon with poor offensive stats.

Strategy Against Marill

Electric and Grass attacks are super effective. Bulky water types who can take physical hits and actually deal out damage to Marill have a high chance of beating it.

Contest Moveset

A good Contest Moveset for Marill would have to be this for the Cute Contest best with Timid, Hasty, Jolly or Naive Nature:

Attacks:

Snore
Tackle
Tail Whip
Double Edge

Items Attached:

Pink Scarf

Strategy Using Marill

If you do the attacks in this following order you should have very few problems; 1st - Tail Whip, 2nd - Snore, 3rd - tail Whip, 4th - Tackle/Snore, 5th - Double Edge
