Like all previous Pokémon games, Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver have a subplot that features an evil team trying to further their agenda which would end up with world domination. HeartGold & SoulSilver features Team Rocket in a storyline that continues on from FireRed & LeafGreen. Several people have decided to reform Team Rocket after Giovanni disbanded it three years previously. Be warned though as this page does contain spoilers for the entire game.
Slowpoke's Well Your first encounter with Team Rocket is in Azalea Town. Once you arrive in town, you will see a resident arguing with a Team Rocket member. Go and see Kurt and he will tell you that Team Rocket are cutting off the tails of the local Slowpoke in the Slowpoke Well. He rushes off to the Well. Go there and you will find Kurt injured. He asks you to head in Head in and you will find several Rocket members and some Slowpoke. Defeat the Rocket members and you will eventually find the Rocket Executive in charge of this endeavor, Proton. You then go and battle him.

Mahogany Hideout When you get to Mahogany Town, you will learn of a radio signal being sent out causing the Gyarados in Lake of Rage to go crazy. Once you investigate and either defeat or capture the Red Gyarados, Lance, one of the strongest trainers in Johto & Kanto, will come up to you and tell you Team Rocket is to blame and requests your assistance to take them down. Return to Mahogany Town and enter the shop. Lance is there and uncovers an entrance to a Secret Hideout. You both enter to go defeat Team Rocket When inside, you will find a variety of statues that trigger an alarm due to proximity. Each alarm brings up two Rocket Grunts for you to fight. Continue on through the area and you'll soon find a tile puzzle. There is a a small path you are capable of going through, however if you stray from the path, you will be attacked by a wild Voltorb, Geodude or Koffing. You then find some stairs. Go down there and you will soon meet Lance who will tell you there are some passwords to unlock the keys. He has found a password but you need two to access the doors. Continue on and you'll eventually be confronted by your rival who claims you're too weak to fight Team Rocket. Nearby, you'll find another Rocket Executive, Petrel. He is disguised as Giovanni. You must battle him to get the final password to unlock the doors in the hideout

Once you have defeated Petrel, he will disappear and you will see a Murkrow left behind. The Murkrow then runs off. Follow it and it will eventually lead you back to the big door in B2F. Once you approach the door, you will be confronted by another Rocket Executive and a grunt. They challenge you at the same time, however Lance quickly appears and joins you in order to battle Ariana and the grunt in a double battle
Once defeated, you can go into the door and Lance suggests you defeat the Electrode powering the generator in order to break the signal. Defeat the Electrode and Team Rocket is defeated in Mahogany Town. |

Goldenrod Underground & Radio Tower Shortly after defeating them in Mahogany Town, you will discover that Team Rocket have hijacked the Goldenrod City Radio Tower and have begun sending out a signal calling out for Giovanni to rejoin them. Go to Goldenrod and you will discover that you cannot enter the Radio Tower's second floor. Go to the Underground and you will find that you can change into the Rocket Disguise usually used for photographs. With that costume on, head up to the Radio Tower. Once there, if you try to go up to the next floor, you will be challenged as your rival appears and blows your disguise. Defeat the Rockets and climb up to the fourth floor, battling Rockets on the way. On the fourth floor, you will find the Director of the Radio Tower. Talk to him and you will soon discover that he is actually Petrel in disugise. Defeat him and you'll get the Underground Key

With the Underground Key in hand, head to the South of the Goldenrod Underground. Continue through the underground and you'll end up having to battle your rival. Once defeated, he'll leave you be and you can continue on. The underground has a puzzle which controls the gates. Open the right gates and go through to the next floor and travel through the corridors, fighting through rockets until you hit the centre where you will find the real director. He will give you a card key that opens every door in the Radio Tower Return to the Radio Tower and find the locked door on the third floor and head upwards. Soon after this, you will be challenged by Proton, the Rocket Executive from the Slowpoke Well.
Defeat him and continue on and you'll soon end up facing the next Rocket Executive, Ariana

Once you have defeated Ariana, you can then access the lift upwards to the top of the Radio Tower. Once you get to the top, you will see the new Rocket Leader, Archer. He will continue to state that Team Rocket will prevail and that Giovanni will return. He then challenges you.
Defeat him and he will admit defeat and disband Team Rocket. The Director will then come and reward you the Rainbow or Silver Feathers depending upon your version. |

Cerulean City When you get to Kanto, you will discover that the electricity is out across Kanto preventing the Magnet Train from running and the Kanto Radio Tower from being operational. Go to the Power Plant and you will learn a shady character has been spotted in Cerulean City and may be the one who stole the part preventing electricity from being generated. Go to Cerulean Gym and you will encounter a Rocket. He will quickly rush out of the gym. Follow him and you will find him at Route 24 where he will quickly try to hide. Talk to him and he will challenge you to a battle.
Once you defeat him, he'll hear that Team Rocket has disbanded and will learn his mistakes and tell you that the Machine Part he stole from the Power Plant is stored within the LifeRings in Cerulean City Gym. Team Rocket is now defeated. |
