Mewtwo, The Genetic Pokémon. Its DNA is almost the same as Mew’s. However, its size and disposition are vastly different. It was created by a scientist after years of horrific gene-splicing and DNA-engineering experiments. Even though the scientific power of humans created this Pokémon's body, they failed to endow Mewtwo with a compassionate heart.
Overview
The original and only pokemon that has been Uber since release, Mewtwo is a pokemon that has gone from a pokemon that can do anything, to a defined role as a stallbreaker or wallbreaker. These roles are further extended by Mewtwos megas which expand on the roles that Mewtwo has excelled at through the years. Overall Mewtwo is a very versatile pokemon that is hard to really see what it's going to making it hard to play around.
Positives
Offensive Abilities - 110 physical attack, 154 Special Attack, and 130 Speed means Mewtwo packs a huge punch and with access to Psystrike, Mewtwo can hit physically with its massive Special Attack. 130 Speed isn't as good as it was but means Mewtwo outpaces most of Ubers without a boost, most notable of which is Darkrai which will come up again. These tools make Mewtwo a powerful threat as nothing can really get in on it safe.
Coverage - This is the other side of Mewtwo's offensive pressure, Mewtwo has insane coverage. Access to special moves such as Ice Beam, Fire Blast, Ice Beam, and Focus Blast while access to Stone Edge from the physical side means not a lot can get in safely or without taking a lot of damage.
Negatives
Defense - Mewtwo has low defenses all around. While these stats used to be good in a few generations ago, they have fallen off hard. This means it's hard for Mewtwo to get in as it will take a lot of damage as well as edging out Mewtwo's old tank set as there are other pokemon that now do it better.
Abilities
Pressure - Opponent uses 2 power points instead of 1 - A good ability overall, especially for more defensive pokemon. While Mewtwo isn't the most tanky anymore, Pressure is still pretty nice
Unnerve - Prevents the opponent from using berries - This is a VGC ability, but is a very strong ability in doubles but isn't great in singles
Movesets
All Out Attacker
-Ice Beam
-Psystrike
-Thunder/Thunderbolt/Shadow Ball
-Aura Sphere
Item Attached: Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs and Nature:
4Def/252SpAttack/252Speed
Timid Nature
While Mewtwo has a hard time separating itself from its megas due to them doing its jobs better, but can still do these jobs well. As an all out attacker, Mewtwo does a better job powerwise than its Y mega thanks to a Life Orb. Psystrike is the best general move due to its high power and ability to break through special walls. Ice Beam is strong coverage, OHKOking threats such as Mega Salamence and Rayquaza what can threaten with high power moves. Aura Sphere is a strong option to hit Darkrai and Arceus Dark. Last slot is open to either Thunderbolt for Kyogre while Thunder is stronger but most unreliable without a Kyogre or Shadow Ball for Lugia.
Other Options
Z Crystals - Mewtwo can use Z Crystals unlike its mega forms, allowing it to bait in threats and pressure or KO them with the right Z Crystal, namely Fightinium Z with Aura Sphere for Arceus Dark.
Mewtwo, The Genetic Pokémon. Psychic power has augmented its muscles. It has a grip strength of one ton and can sprint a hundred meters in two seconds flat!
Overview
Expanding on Mewtwos stallbreaker set, Mega Mewtwo X is a powerful threat in Ubers because it has better matchups into some of the answers to Mewtwo such as Arceus Dark. However Mega Mewtwo X brings some new checks and counters to the table, namely Fairies and physical walls, struggling with threats like Primal Groudon. Overall Mega Mewtwo X brings a special flexibility option as it has different answers than normal Mewtwo and can just remove a pokemon is the opponent doesn't realize that it's Mewtwo X
Positives
Stallbreaking - With 190 base Attack and Taunt, Mega Mewtwo X is an excellent stallbreaker stopping defensive teams quite easily. This also means nothing can boost on Mega Mewtwo X because of Taunt and creates a bit of mind games of if Mewtwo will Taunt or just attack.
Negatives
Defense - Mewtwo X has better defenses overall than the rest of its forms but is overly still mediocre. This makes it hard for Mega Mewtwo X to get in but does have an easier time than the rest of its forms.
Typing - While not a huge weakness, gaining a Fighting typing means Mewtwo loses out on some switch in chances on Psychic threats which are a large part of Ubers. This and a new weakness to Flying making Mega Salamence and a stray Mega Pinsir a bigger problem as well as Choice Scarfed Ho-Oh. Finally Xerneas is now a problem with the Fighting typing making it hard to deal with.
Abilities
Steadfast - Prevents flinching - An alright ability, not a lot of pokemon use moves that can cause flinching in Ubers and really Insomnia would have been better.
Movesets
Stallbreaker
-Low Kick
-Taunt
-Ice Beam/Zen Headbutt
-Stone Edge/Zen Headbutt
Item Attached: Mewtwonite
Ability: Steadfast (Pressure on Mewtwo)
EVs and Nature:
252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
Low Kick is the primary STAB of the set and with how heavy most things are in Ubers, it hits really hard. Taunt is the next key move as it really is what makes Mega Mewtwo X excel. Ice Beam is a nice other move as even with Jolly it can still KO Rayquaza and Mega Salamence who are big threats but Zen Headbutt can be used as it hits really hard and pressures Mega Gengar. Stone Edge is the last option to nail Ho-Oh and Lugia but is open to be switched for Zen Headbutt.
Partners
Genesect - Able to create space for Mewtwo to get in with U-Turn and revenge threats with its Choice Scarf, Genesect is able to pick off threats that Mewtwo weakens. Iron Head can also be used to threaten Xerneas but can't catch Xerneas after Geomancy.
Zygarde Complete Forme - Setting up hazards if needed and being a tanky, Zygarde C checks threats such as Ho-Oh and Extremespeed Arceus that are a problem for Mewtwo. This gives a team an option for other big Physical threats such as Mega Salamence and Primal Groudon, giving a bit more flexibility in team building.
Countering Mega Mewtwo
Marshadow - Marshadow is a big threat to Mewtwo X as without using Zen Headbutt, Mega Mewtwo X can't touch it. Meanwhile Marshadow can just 2HKO Mewtwo with Shadow Sneak making it a solid answer. Arceus - Extremespeed Arceus is a problem for Mewtwo as it will do a lot of damage but has to be wary of Low Kick. Meanwhile Arceus Fairy can OHKO Mewtwo making it a better threat but more niche.
Mewtwo, The Genetic Pokémon. Despite its diminished size, its mental power has grown phenomenally. With a mere thought, it can smash a skyscraper to smithereens.
Overview
With its Y Mega Stone, Mega Mewtwo Y gains boosted stats on the special side, allowing Mewtwo to gain power close to the power of normal Mewtwo with a Life Orb but no recoil. This allows Mega Mewtwo Y to act as a decent stallbreaker as well as a strong wallbreaker.
Positives
Offensive Utility - With boosted special stats, Mega Mewtwo Y is a powerhouse having the highest Special Attack in the game. This combined with Calm Mind allows Mega Mewtwo Y to destroy slow defensive teams or just pressure a wide range of threat, diswading switch ins.
Negatives
Defense - 70 Defense is a problem with high power physical attackers around. Rayquaza and Arceus Normal are two of the best at checking Mega Mewtwo Y with Extreme Speed to get around Mewtwos 140 base Speed.
Abilities
Insomnia - Prevents Sleep - Amazing with Darkrai floating around, this is great as Mewtwo can sponge up Dark Void as well as other stray sleep moves.
Movesets
Wallbreaker
-Psystrike
-Ice Beam
-Fire Blast
-Focus Blast/Calm Mind/Taunt
Item Attached: Mewtwonite Y
Ability: Insomnia (Pressure on Mewtwo)
EVs and Nature:
40Def/216SpAtk//252Speed
Timid Nature
Similar to the Life Orb attacker Mewtwo set, Psystrike is the best general move of the set, stopping Blissey from just walking Mewtwo. Ice Beam is good coverage for the plethora of Dragons in Ubers. Fire Blast is good for Steel threats such as Arceus Steel and Necrozma Dusk Main. Focus Blast is a strong option in the last slot for Dark and Steel threats such as Dialga and Tyranitar but Calm Mind is an option to boost up and become more threatening. Taunt is also an option to help break through defensive pokemon.
Other Options & Partners
Shadow Ball - A strong option to break through threats such as Lugia and Lunala as well as pressure other threats such as Aegislash, Mega Sableye, and Necrozma Dusk Main/Dawn Wing.
Primal Groudon - Bringing entry hazards which are a huge boon for Mewtwo as well as being a big physical tank which really helps Mewtwo as a lot of its checks are physical threats that Primal Groudon easily checks.
Tapu Lele - Psychic Terrain is the main reason to pick Lele, boosting the power of Psystrike and preventing priority moves such as Marshadows Shadow Sneak and Rayquaza's Extreme Speed. Tapu Lele can also bait threats that are problems for Mewtwo and pressure them enough to make them easier for Mewtwo to handle later.
Countering Mega Mewtwo
Marshadow - Marshadow is a nightmare for Mewtwo due to Shadow Sneak with a boost from Technician. Mega Mewtwo Y's EVs prevent being OHKOed before mega evolving, key being before. This means that Marshadow can OHKO Mega Mewtwo Y after it evolves making it a big problem for the mega.
Yveltal - Defensive Yveltal is a strong defensive option as it can absorb most hits from Mewtwo bar Ice Beam and can fish KOes or at least a lot of damage with Oblivion Wing. Taunt is also nice as it can stop Mega Mewtwo Y from boosting with Calm Mind as well.
