Battle for the Underground

Summary

The episode begins with a recap of the previous episode. Ingo and Emmet look on, as they see a lot of fake ghost trains being sent out on the tracks in the Underground Railway by Team Rocket. Meowth comments that the fakes will keep everyone else busy. While locked in cages, Pikachu and Axew cry out for help. Ingo tells Cilan that when the Ghost Train crossed the D3 point, it multiplied right away. Cilan asks if the multiple trains prevents them from being able to tell which one is the real Ghost Train from the administration room. Ash says that they are going to have to check them one-by-one. Ingo tells Ash and his friends that there is a train approaching them. The train passes by, as they notice that it is a fake. Cilan tells Ingo that the train was a fake. Cilan comments that it is what Team Rocket expects them to do.

Dr. Zager approaches Nimbasa City in his helicopter, as he tells Team Rocket that the dummy strategy was a success, and that it buys them some time. Dr. Zager asks them about the Pokémon. Meowth comments that Axew and Pikachu won't be able to escape no matter how hard they try to. Pikachu uses Iron Tail on the door, but is sent backwards into the wall. Axew asks Pikachu if he is okay, and Pikachu says yes and is very worried. Ash and his friends head down some tracks and see another Ghost Train pass by them, which is also a fake. Iris wonders where Axew and the others are. Cilan wonders if Team Rocket already escaped with the real Ghost Train. He says that there is the possibility that Team Rocket may no longer be in the underground.

Ash asks Cilan if the trains can go above ground as well, as he thought that the trains only stayed underground at all times. Iris says that she wonders how they put the underground railway underground. Cilan tells them that wherever the train entered from, is exactly where they will exit from. Ingo tells Cilan that all of the underground railways are sent from the Anville Town Yard. He says that Cilan's theory that the Ghost Train came entered the underground from that yard, is probably correct. Emmet says that the Ghost Train should be headed to Anville Town. Ingo tells Emmet that they will also be heading to Anville Town. Cilan tells Iris and Ash that Anville Town is far north of Nimbasa City. He explains that it is a perfect place for Metro Connoisseurs, and that it is a town with a huge rail yard. Iris comments that it fired him up in a different way. Emmet wonders if they will be able to catch up with their carriage, as Ingo comments that he knows a way that they can speed it up.

Dr. Zager and Team Rocket continue to head towards Anville Town, which is their Rendevouz point. Axew begins to cry hysterically, as Pikachu tries to calm him down. Pikachu looks at the Poké balls, as he notices Snivy's Poké ball. Pikachu uses Electro Ball to let Snivy out of her Poké ball. Snivy wonders what is going on, as Pikachu says that they need help. Snivy uses Vine Whip to search through the Poké ball to find Excadrill's Poké ball. She lets Excadrill out of his Poké ball. Pikachu tells Excadrill that he needs to break their cages to set them free. Excadrill uses Metal Claw to break open both cages, which sets Pikachu and Axew free. Pikachu uses Iron Tail on the door, but it only leaves a small dent on the door. Axew uses Dragon Rage on the door, but it doesn't work either. Snivy uses Vine Whip to let out Pansage from his Poké ball. Pansage wonders what is going on, as Pikachu tells him that they need to break the door down. Pansage uses Bullet Seed on the door, but it doesn't work. Excadrill tackles the door, but it also doesn't work.

Pikachu thinks about what Pokémon could break the door down, as a thought bubble appears above his head. Pikachu believes that Oshawott's Razor Shell, Scraggy's High Jump Kick, nor Tepig's Tackle would be able to break the door down. Pikachu realizes that Dwebble's corrosive fluid is what they need to break the door down. Snivy uses her Vine Whip to let Dwebble out of its Poké ball. Pikachu tells Dwebble what to do, as Dwebble uses its corrosive spray to melt down a hole in the door. As Ash and his friends are heading towards Anville Town, Ingo and Emmet are riding fast on a cart towards them. An Eelektross is using its Discharge to power the cart up. Ash scans Eelektross with his Pokédex. Emmet explains that they were using Eelektross' Discharge to power up the motor of the cart. Everyone climbs aboard, as they head off to Anville Town. Cilan comments that he expects nothing less of the Subway Masters.

The Pokémon have successfully breaking a hole through the door, as Team Rocket hears what's going on so Meowth checks it out. The Pokémon cheer that they were successful, as Pikachu looks through the hole. Meowth opens the door, as the Pokémon look at him with very mad faces. Pikachu sparks Electricity as he looks angrily at Meowth. Meowth says that knowing the truth now won't help them, and that at the current speed they won't be able to jump off of the train. He explains that since they outran Ash and his friends, that no one will help them. After Meowth says it, Pikachu becomes even more angry. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, as Meowth slams the door so that he won't get shocked by it. Meowth informs Team Rocket that the Pokémon broke a hole through the door, and are about to escape. James wonders how they broke through the cages, as Jessie says that they think they are so crafty. James tells Meowth to keep an eye on Pikachu and the other Pokémon, since they will be in Anville Town soon. Dr. Zager says that he will secure them right away.

Dr. Zager approaches the train to latch it to his helicopter. Snivy uses her Vine Whip to let Roggenrola and Tepig out of their Poké balls. Pikachu commands them to attack, as Tepig uses Ember, Roggenrola uses Flash Cannon, Pansage uses Bullet Seed, and Axew uses Dragon Rage on the coupling in the middle of the two trains. Meowth opens the door and sees what's going on, as Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on the coupling which sends Meowth backwards and sets them free from the other train. Meowth notices that the coupling got destroyed. Jessie and James are surprised, as they inform Dr. Zager that the coupling was destroyed. Dr. Zager says that he saw that, and that they cannot underestimate the Pokémon. James tells him to secure the other train with the manipulator. Pikachu is happy that they were able to separate, but Meowth tells them that they will come right back after the Pokémon. Pikachu notices the machine that turns the trains another direction and tells Snivy about it. Meowth wonders what the Pokémon are up to. Snivy uses her Vine Whip to switch the machine and change the direction that they are going. The machine turns from green to red, the tracks change directions, as they head in a different direction that the other train. Dr. Zager changes his direction to follow them as well. Team Rocket backs up their train to chase after the Pokémon. Jessie says that they cannot underestimate Pikachu.

Dr. Zager and Team Rocket continue to chase after the Pokémon, as Dr. Zager says for them not to get to close since he will try to latch onto them. The Pokémon jump on top of the train, to get ready to attack the helicopter. Ash and his friends exit the underground railway, as they head towards the train with their Pokémon. Dr. Zager lowers the large clamps towards the train, as Ash and his friends see the Ghost Train, the Pokémon being on top, and that it has split into two. Ash asks Emmet for them to speed up the train. Eelektross lets out more Discharge to speed up the train. Ingo says that if they enter the correct lane at the fork, they should be able to catch up with the Ghost Train. Pansage uses Bullet Seed, and Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on the machine that is attached to the helicopter. Team Rocket says that resistance is useless.

Meowth notices Ash and his friends catching up to them on the other side of the tracks. They tell Dr. Zager to hurry up with securing the other train, as he says that he has to do it carefully. Ash yells to the Pokémon and says that they have come to save them. The helicopter grabs onto the train, as Ash says that he is going to have to go help the Pokémon. The Subway Masters say that it's very dangerous to do that, while Ash says that he can't just watch while the Pokémon are trying their best. Cilan and Iris say that they want to go help out too, as Iris is worried about Axew and the others. Emmet tells Ingo that he knows exactly how they feels, and the way they want to protect the underground railways is exactly the similar to how everyone feels about wanting to protect their Pokémon. Ingo says that he will lend them his powers, as he brings out his Chandelure. Ash scans Chandelure with his Pokédex. Chandelure uses Psychic to put Ash and his friends onto the train.

As they get on the train, they are relieved to see that the Pokémon are all okay. Team Rocket is annoyed that they showed up on top of the train. Roggenrola uses Flash Cannon, while Tepig uses Ember to make the train move faster. Team Rocket makes their train move faster as well. Axew uses Dragon Rage to help out Tepig and Roggenrola's attacks make the train move faster. Cilan says that they are gaining on them, and spots another machine that turns the tracks. Pansage uses Bullet Seed to hit the machine which turns the tracks, as they switch tracks and avoid getting grabbed. Roggenrola, Tepig, and Axew make their attacks stronger to make the train move even faster.

As the helicopter moves closer, Snivy uses Leaf Storm and Pikachu uses Electro Ball to break the blades of the helicopter, and to break the grabber attached to it. Ingo calls what the Pokémon did, an excellent combination. Dr. Zager says that he can no longer grab the car, as Team Rocket speeds up their train to chase the Pokémon. Roggenrola, Axew, and Tepig use the same attacks again (Flash Cannon, Dragon Rage, and Ember), as Tepig's Ember turns into Flamethrower instead. Cilan says that Ash's feeling communicated to Tepig, and it gained a new power. Chandelure goes to Team Rocket's train and uses Will-O-Wisp to destroy it. Smoke forms, as Team Rocket escapes the train with their jet packs. Ash tells Meowth they he had them fooled, and that they win since they got their Pokémon back. Ash says that despite what they did, he enjoyed traveling with him to Nimbasa City. Meowth calls Ash very Naive, and tells Pikachu that they'll let them go for today. Team Rocket says that Giovanni needs Pikachu, so they will never give up. Pikachu becomes enraged during the conversation, and lets a Thunderbolt go, but misses Team Rocket as they escape. Ash tells Pikachu to let it go for now. Cilan says that Team Rocket had a bold and fine strategy. Iris comments that it may be a good thing she didn't catch Meowth.

Dr. Zager says that they were only one step away, as James says that it would be too dangerous to chase them any further, and Jessie says that it is important to know when to give up. Meowth says that they need to think of a different strategy. As they get to Anville Town, Cilan admires all of the trains that it has. Ingo comes to tell everyone that the underground railway has recovered. Emmet says that they returned the Poké balls to the Pokémon Center. Ash is excited that he can now battle the Nimbasa City Gym Leader. Emmet tells Ash that Elesa is a very tough Gym Leader.
