Octillery, The Jet Pokémon. It instinctively sneaks into rocky holes. If it gets sleepy, it steals the nest of a fellow OCTILLERY. It traps foes with the suction cups on its tentacles, then smashes them with its rock-hard head. It loves to lurk inside holes in rocks. It sometimes sprays ink on prey by sticking out only its mouthIt obscures its foe's vision by spitting a cloud of murky ink. It makes its nest among boulders. It lives in the gaps of boulders and in holes on the seafloor. Its suction cups grip prey tightly. Overview Octillery is awesome. I remember using it on my first team on my Silver cartridge, and I found it awesome. Although nothing really special, Octillery has got some good offensive stats and acceptable bulk, but its main weakness lies in its horrific Speed. Thankfully, you can get around this weakness easily enough by using Octillery on a Trick Room team, as a Baton Pass recipient, or as a powerhouse that only attacks Pokémon on the switch. Ability Suction Cups: the best ability for a Baton Pass recipient. It's also useful regardless, but especially for a Baton Pass based set. Sniper: if you trust your luck to get critical hits, you will be doing huge damage if you run Sniper. Obivously a more luck based ability, but if you get lucky at the right time, something is getting hurt.. Move Sets Give Octillery the goods. Supply that octopus with Speed.
- Surf Such a cool special sweeper, if you can pull it off. Throw at least +2 Speed at it and watch it go. Surf is your main move here as it is the best STAB move Octillery has. Fire Blast helps handle Steel types that take special hits for a living, such as Registeel. Ice Beam has good coverage with Surf, as well as being a good move in general. Energy Ball exists so Octillery has a chance against bulky Waters. Trick your opponent into thinking Octillery is fast.
- Surf Set up Trick Room and try to get Octillery in safely. Surf is a great move, always worth using. Ice Beam has good coverage with Surf, and Energy Ball handles bulky Waters that want to wall you. However, the cherry on the sundae is Water Spout. This attack is pure power. At max HP (this is the reason you aren't using Life Orb) it has 150 base power, more than Surf has including STAB. It's ridiculously strong, and works best on this set with Trick Room support as Octillery doesn't have to worry as much about its low Speed. Special beatdown
- Water Spout Hit and run. Hit something on the switch, run away. Water Spout will be hurting anything that comes in, with Surf acting as a back up Water move. Ice Beam and Energy Ball add coverage and should be used anyway, as they are Octillery's best special moves. Physical beatdown
- Waterfall Although not as powerful as special Octillery, this set comes as a surprise and hits normal switch ins hard. Waterfall is your physical Surf, although the flinch really won't come in useful at all due to having pathetic Speed. Seed Bomb replaces Energy Ball as a way of dealing with bulky Waters. Return is a great physical attack, and it also combos with Waterfall really well. Rock Blast hits Pokémon like Altaria much harder than your other moves, but Fire Blast can really hurt Registeel. Physical beatdown Other Options
Bounce, Charge Beam, Gunk Shot, Psychic, Sludge Bomb Countering Octillery Revenge killing it is the best way to beat it. It cannot outspeed anything to save its life, outside of gaining Speed boosts or when under the effects of Trick Room. Bulky Waters are the next best thing to beat Octillery with. Pokémon like Mantine, Ludicolo and Lanturn are the best examples, but there are others like Quagsire and Milotic. Just watch out for Energy Ball and Seed Bomb. Chansey does really well against Octillery as it is mainly a special based Pokémon, but the physical version will be hurting Chansey a lot. Registeel does well against both kinds, but has to watch out for repeated Water attacks and Fire Blast. Locations in Games
