The world’s first OFFICIAL Pokémon magazine hits the shelves today

Emap Active today launches the world’s first official Pokémon magazine. The magazine will be published quarterly, priced Ł3.99.

With the total number of Pokémon games sold in Europe exceeding 25 million and the hugely successful Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire for Game Boy Advance having sold approximately 3.3 million in Europe last year, the Pokémon phenomenon looks set to continue.

Editor Tim Street commented:

“There has never been a better time to launch this title; fans have demanded it for years, ever since the very first Pokémon phenomenon swept the globe at the turn of the millennium. The appetite for Pokémon has never waned - just look at the amazing sales success of the Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire Game Boy Advance titles last year.

“Emap Active was awarded the official licence to publish this magazine because we were able to prove that we can innovate and deliver fantastic reader value, which is exactly what we’ve done.”

The 92 pages of the official Pokémon magazine are crammed with a colourful mixture of all things Pokémon, including exclusive competitions, reviews, posters and quizzes.

Marketing manager Stuart Bell has developed a launch campaign to generate awareness of the magazine and create excitement at the news-stand:

“From official magazine branding on Nintendo game boxes to advertising in Emap’s youth magazines, we are generating huge awareness for this exciting launch.

“At point of sale, we’ve invested heavily in the quality of our officially endorsed magazine and delivered a hard hitting promotional package - where else can fans get a 3D papercraft Pokémon to build or a sheet of official character magnets? Pokémon fans deserve the best and we’re confident that this exclusive foil-wrapped ‘Poképack’ delivers great value.”

The 1 October launch is timed to coincide with the release of Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen which are set to be the big Christmas games of 2004 on Game Boy Advance.
