Hypno, The Hypnosis Pokémon. The arcing movement and glitter of the pendulum in it's hand lull the foe into deep hypnosis. While searching for prey, it polishes the pendulum. It carries a pendulum-like device. There once was an incident in which it took away a child it hypnotized. When it locks eyes with an enemy, it will use a mix of Psychic moves such as Hypnosis and Confusion.
Battle Moveset A Good Moveset for Hypno would have to be this: Attacks:
Psychic / Seismic Toss Items Attached: Leftovers Preferred Nature: Calm OR Bold Strategy Using Hypno This is my favourite set for Hypno, it makes for a pretty decent tank set up and can mess with you're opponent's strategies with status attacks. Wish is a move gained from NYPC so those who do not have that kind of access (or NetBattle) should change it up for another tank-like move or go for a variation that I've seen some try involving sending Insomnia to another Pokémon and using Rest before you switch out so that once switched back in Insomnia triggers Hypno awake. Using Hypno general requires you to play to it's strengths. It's one of the few Pokémon with innate resistance to Sleep attacks making it a core sleep absorber. It's defences are passable and work well enough with it's Fighting and Psychic resistance. EV Corner: The defensive set up will usually be based on which supportive moves you have given Hypno. Without Reflect:
EVs: 230 HP / 252 Def / 28 SDef Without Calm Mind:
EVs: 230 HP / 96 Def / 184 SDef Without either:
EVs: 38 HP / 252 Def / 220 SDef This set up will obviously need to be varied to suit you're offensive move, 'some' special attack is needed for the use of Psychic, especially when it does not have Calm Mind support. Other Optional Sets:
Hypno @ Leftovers A bulkier version of a standard Alakazam. Calm Mind up and either all-out offence or added support with Thunder Wave to help make up for lost speed.
Hypno @ Leftovers Sub-Punch set. Shadow Ball handles Ghost Pokémon and Psychic handles Poison types.
Hypno @ Leftovers The set is pretty much reduced to novelty status but it could work if you use Wish before Belly Drum. It's still rather situational but it's one of the better novelty sets out there. Other Optional Moves Thief, Taunt, Torment, Snatch, Toxic, Counter, Light Screen and Safeguard. Thief is a one-time use move which hurts it but it's still pretty good. Taunt, Torment and Snatch are all incredibly cool moves but very situational and their helpfulness depends on the quality of your opponent and your prediction skills. Toxic… everything gets it. Counter can mess up some physical sweepers since Hypno has good defences and HP. Light Screen and Safeguard go to generally helping your team-mates. Strategy Against Hypno It's pretty slow and it's offence is pretty weak and it becomes reliant on status attacks and non-offensive support moves to become useful. This leaves it pretty wide open to Taunt, Snatch and to a lesser extent Substitute. It can't take repeated physical abuse, especially from Choice Band attacks. Tyranitar can pretty much crap all over the standard offence since Psychic won't affect it and Seismic Toss will barely scratch it, the same applies to the majority of Dark types. Contest Moveset A good Contest Moveset for Hypno would have to be this for the Smart Contest best with Calm, Gentle, Careful, Sassy Nature: Attacks:
Calm mind Items Attached: Green Scarf Strategy Using Hypno If you do the attacks in this following order you should have very few problems; 1st - Calm mind, 2nd - Psychic, 3rd - Calm mind/Thunderwave, 4th - Psychic, 5th - Hyperbeam Locations in Games
