Glastrier

Glastrier, The Wild Horse Pokémon. Glastrier emits intense cold from its hooves. It’s also a belligerent Pokémon—anything it wants, it takes by force. Glastrier has tremendous physical strength, and the mask of ice covering its face is 100 times harder than diamond.

Overview

Glastrier is one of the new sub-legendary Pokemon introduced in Generation 8. One of Calyrex's most reliable steeds, the reason why its Chilling Neigh causes so much fear even on the hearts of the most experienced VGC players is due to its great stat distribution, coverage options and a fantastic ability that further increases it's base 145 Attack whenever it KO's an opponent. Despite its Ice typing's multiple weakness, Glastrier can take advantage of this thanks to its fantastic 100/130/110 bulk which is further augmented by Dynamax and makes it even easier to trigger its Weakness Policy allowing it to obliterate the opposition on an eternal slumber. Glastrier is without a doubt one of the most overcentralizing Pokemon on the current VGC metagame and a threat that every competitive team should prepare for.

- Icicle Crash
- Close Combat
- High Horsepower / Heavy Slam
Item Attached: Weakness Policy / Life Orb
Ability: Chilling Neigh
EVs and Nature:
252 HP / 252 Atk
Brave Nature

Icicle Crash allows Glastrier to destroy Pokemon such as Landorus-Therian and Rillaboom while dealing heavy damage to other targets thanks to its great neutral coverage. Protect is absolutely mandatory for any successful set allowing Glastrier to prevent any damage while scouting the opponent. Close Combat is the best coverage move Glastrier can use to hit Incineroar, one of its most common checks, for super-effective damage. When used in Dynamax, it becomes Max Knuckle which further increases its Attack stat. High Horsepower is the 2nd coverage move Glastrier wants to use to ravage Heatran. Alternatively, Heavy Slam can be used to smack Tapu Fini harder than any of its other moves while allowing it to increase its Defense when it becomes Max Steelspike during Dynamax.

,p> Weakness Policy is the main item to use as due to Ice's multiple weaknesses and Glastrier's extraordinary bulk, it becomes easy to activate once it Dynamaxes. However, for opponents who are over-prepared and have ways to handle Glastrier without triggering its WP, Life Orb can be used to increase its power. Chilling Neigh is a fantastic ability since it increases its Attack stat every time it KO's an opponent allowing Glastrier to snowball through the opponent's team.

Partners

One of the best partners for Glastrier is Tapu Fini because of its ability preventing status affects due to terrain and the fact that it can deal with problematic Fire-types.

Countering Glastrier

Incineroar is one of the biggest problems for Glastrier, intimidate lowers the attack stat of Glastrier and being a Fire-type makes it naturally adept to resisting the STAB move of Glastrier, it needs to watch out for close combat mind you. Other then that status conditions are a big hamper on it's potential, although these can be alleviated by a Lum Berry.
