Route 22 Is a small area but there are some worthwhile Pokémon in it and a battle with your Rival. So be prepared and have your Pokémon In Top Shape. After you have battled your Rival and caught some Pokémon you should be ready to go to Route 2. Go back to Viridian City And Go North. A Man will show you how to catch Pokémon before you go up there. After he is done, keep going up and you will reach Route 2
