Ogerpon, the Mask Pokémon. This Pokémon's type changes based on which mask it's wearing. It confounds its enemies with nimble movements and kicks. This mischief-loving Pokémon is full of curiosity. It battles by drawing out the type-based energy contained within its masks.
Overview
The star of the Teal Mask DLC, Ogerpon has taken the world by storm with its adorable visage and potent power enabling a variety of roles. 120 Attack with the amazing Ivy Cudgel as STAB ensures that Ogerpon will hit like a truck even uninvested. Base 110 Speed is another boon, outspeeding a large host of threats and enabling Ogerpon to make the most of its wide moveset by getting the jump on its competition. And with decent all around bulk, Ogerpon can not only pursue more defensive roles thanks to access to recovery in Horn Leech and Leech Side, but remain a sticky threat when playing on offensive as well. And the Teal Mask’s Defiant and Speed boosting Embody Aspect ensures that even the defensive Teal Mask Ogerpon can go for the sweep in the right conditions.
However, while the Teal Mask Ogerpon may have the most powerful boosting Abilities of all its masks, and the freedom of its item slot, it is also the most constrained form when it comes to coverage. Grass has many poor matchups and while Ogerpon’s base coverage is good, it struggles to fit all the moves it needs into a single set. Not being able to Terastalize outside of Grass to address these issues further exasperates Teal Mask’s woes. Especially as outside of Landorus’s Intimidate, the most reliable ways of activating Defiant are Corviknight’s Defog and Enamorus’ Mystical Fire, neither of which Grass types like contending with. Grass’ many weaknesses also cuts into Ogerpon’s bulk, ensuring that many Pokémon have coverage, if not outright STAB to answer Teal Mask. Finally, the naturally faster Meowscarada and the priority of Grass Glide Rillaboom offer stiff competition to Teal Mask’s niche as fast physical Grass attackers. Ogerpon has garnered a lot of attention for good reason, but time will tell whether it can emerge from the shadows of its history.
Positives
Base 120 Attack, a phenomenal STAB in Ivy Cudgel and natural boosting in Defiant leaves Teal Mask a terrifying force regardless of set.
A good movepool, not only having wide coverage to address most of Grass’ resists, but also fantastic support options in U-Turn, Spikes, and Knock Off.
Base 110 Speed is fantastic, getting the jump on many Pokémon and enabling Ogerpon to reliably perform its role without disruption.
Able to use items, unlike its other Masks
Negatives
Lack of secondary STAB leaves Teal Mask the easiest to resist of its forms, leaving obvious gaps in its coverage.
Weakness laden Mono Grass typing makes it difficult to stay in with many of the threats Teal Mask could wall having coverage for it.
Constrained to Grass Terastalization, with no way to bluff
Stiff competition with other potent physical Grass Sweepers.

Ability: Defiant
Item: Heavy Duty Boots
EVs and Nature:
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
This set aims to exercise every advantage Teal Mask Ogerpon has over is other forms, taking advantage of its access to Heavy Duty Boots to act as an offensive pivot while able to apply significant pressure if not outright sweep if Defiant is triggered. Ivy Cudgel is such an amazing STAB that it is near mandatory, being base 100 with high Crit Chance and no drawbacks enables Teal Mask to threaten out a lot of popular Water and Ground types like Azumarill, Dondozo, H-Samurott, and Ting-Lu. Spikes and Knock Off help Teal Mask continuously apply pressure to switch ins, either setting up Spikes for further pain for the opposing team, or crippling a prospective check via the Item removal of Knock Off. U-Turn rounds out the set, enabling Teal Mask to further chip the target while pivoting out to maintain momentum.
Tera Types:
Terastalizing Teal Mask Ogerpon gives it a Speed boost, not only enabling sweeping against offensive teams if Defiant has been triggered, but also enabling Ogerpon to get the jump on opponents that would otherwise normally outspeed it. Massive threats like Dragapult and Greninja, that otherwise would threaten Teal Mask out with their coverage become fodder thanks to the speed boost. It can’t be understated the power boost Ivy Cudgel receives from Terastalizing, easily OHKOing offensive variants of Landorus-Therian post Defiant. However, this does come at the cost of Defiant, so timing Terastalization is key. However, as this set’s primary function is annoyer, Terastalizing is not the first priority and can be saved for a more appropriate target.
EVs and Items:
Max Speed and Attack are highly recommended so that Teal Mask can do as much damage as possible while taking minimal hits before doing so. Alternatively, if going for more supportive sets, one can forego the investment in Attack for extra bulk, as Ogerpon is surprisingly durable for something so fast. Heavy Duty Boots is recommended for the item. Teal Mask is expected to pivot in and out repeatedly so avoiding being chipped while doing so is ideal. Alternatively, one can try to apply more damage with Life Orb or Miracle Seed, or have Teal Mask stick around for longer with Leftovers or an appropriate berry.
Partners:
Great Tusk and Ting-Lu make for excellent partners with Teal Mask, further stacking Stealth Rock to go along with Teal Mask’s Spikes. They also cover the Poison and Fire types that give Teal Mask trouble. They in turn enjoy Teal Mask’s Knock Off providing invaluable item disruption, leaving targets more exposed to hazards due to removing Heavy Duty Boots and Leftovers, as well as Ogerpon’s ability to handle opposing Water types and pivot into opposing Grass attacks is need be.
Moltres is also another standout partner for Teal Mask, providing the start of a Fire-Grass core with all the complimentary coverage and resistances involved. Moltres’ access to Will-O-Wisp, Flame Body and U-Turn further accentuate the support it gives, Will-O-Wisp and Flame Body facilitating Spikes setup, while making a great U-Turn partner for maintaining momentum. Cinderace can fulfill a similar niche, but Court Change conflicts with Teal Mask’s Spikes.
Other Options:
Swords Dance -Teal Mask Ogerpon can try for a Swords Dance set to act as a game ending sweeper taking advantage of the speed boost from Terastalizing.
Stomping Tantrum -invaluable Ground coverage against opposing Fire, Poison and Steel types
Low Kick/Super Power- Fighting coverage against Steel types and Teal Mask’s best move against Corviknight.
VGC & Doubles Options
While Ogerpon shines in Singles, it truly gets taken up to another step in Doubles. In addition to Knock Off and U-Turn being just as potent in Doubles as in Singles, Ogerpon has access to the rare Follow Me and Spikey Shield, offering incredible redirection support and a unique Protection move that provides chip even when Ogerpon isn’t on the offense. While Ogerpon may be frail compared to other Follow Me users, not being completely passive unlike redirection staples Amoongus and Indeedee let it stand out. Teal Mask Ogerpon sadly remains in the same awkward position it is in singles. Defiant is an even more absurd ability in Doubles, with Intimidate users being far more common alongside stat dropping moves like Icy Wind, Snarl, etc. However, being locked to Grass typing is an active detriment, as Teal Mask rarely wants to take any of those attacks or have anything to do with their users. The gaps in Teal Mask’s coverage is even more apparent as it almost always wants to be running Spike Shield.
Teal Wisp
-Follow Me
-Knock Off
-Ivy Cudgel
-Spikey Shield
Ability: Defiant
Item: Rocky Helmet
EVs and Nature:
252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
Teal Mask Ogerpon excels as early game disruption, taking advantage of people who like to open with Intimidate, able to draw Fake Out and Taunt to it, helping enable whatever setup Teal Mask’s partner is trying to do. Knock Off further adds to the disruption, removing protective items like Covert Cloak and Safety Goggles, recovery like Leftovers or boosting like Choice Specs, Choice Scarf, etc. effectively offering a myriad of offensive and defensive benefits. Ivy Cudgel is for damage, offering incredible power, especially while Terastalized, and able to rip holes in the opposing team. Spikey Shield rounds out the set. Protect is already the best move in Doubles, enabling to scout for moves, stall out opposing Weather, Screens, Tailwind, Trick Room, etc. Spikey Shield is that with the added benefit of being impossible to Imprison, and causing chip damage to contact attackers.
Rocky Helmet is to ensure that Urshifu is punished with chip damage, even with Unseen Fist bypassing Spikey Shield.
Other Options and Preferred Partners:
U-Turn -pivoting option that hits opposing Rillaboom, Chien Pao, etc.
Urshifu-Rapid enjoys Teal Mask removing Rocky Helmets with Knock Off and absorbing opposing Grass Attacks while forming a Water-Grass core with Teal Mask.
Chi-Yu and H-Arcanine enjoy Teal Mask’s redirection support while providing a Fire-Grass core. H-Arcanine in turn provides Intimidate support, while Chi-Yu can take advantage of Teal Mask to safely setup Nasty Plot.
Countering Ogerpon
It is insanely difficult to stop Ogerpon from providing disruption. Almost nothing likes having their item removed from Knock Off and Ogerpon can capitalize on any switch to setup Spikes or U-Turn out to an opposing check.
Defensively Countering Teal Mask is not exactly simple either, Ogerpon’s wide coverage invalidating most checks. However, Corviknight rises to the challenge, able to tank even a +2 Superpower, counter boost with Iron Defense, recover with Roost and force Teal Mask out with Body Press or Flying STAB. Other defensive Flying types also excel as Ogerpon lacks any direct coverage for them. Defensive Moltres can outright KO Ogerpon with either STAB or outright cripple it with Will-O-Wisp. Defensive Zapdos is another excellent example able to tank any attack and threaten a KO with Flying STAB or Heat Wave.
Checks for Ogerpon otherwise vary widely depending on the gaps in its coverage. When lacking Ground coverage, Fire types like Torkoal can handle Teal Mask. Poison types like Okidogi, Iron Moth, and Amoongus all excel when Teal Mask isn’t carrying Psychic or Ground coverage. Steel types like Heatran and Kingambit fear only Fighting and Ground coverage.
Ogerpon, the Mask Pokémon. This form is the most aggressive, bombarding enemies with the intensity of flames blazing within a hearth. In this form, it draws on the power of fire. It spears its enemies with thorn-covered ivy.
Overview
Hearthflame Ogerpon is a force unto itself. The second Fire Grass type, Hearthflame abuses this STAB combination for all its worth hitting scores of Pokémon with its complimentary coverage and Base 120 Attack. Adding in Ogerpon's already good base coverage and there is little that can emerge unscathed from Hearthflame. Factoring into this is Ogerpon's great Base 110 Speed, getting the jump on many Pokémon, offensive and defensive, including Walking Wake and Enamorus, while placing Iron Moth into an uncomfortable speed tie. Hearthflame's Mold Breaker, while not as potent Teal Mask's Defiant still offers value, enable Hearthflame to smack around Heatran despite Flash Fire, invalidating an otherwise common check to this STAB combination as well as nullifying Unaware, preventing Skeledirge, Dondozo and Clodsire from checking Swords Dance sets. And this is all before Hearthflame Terastalizes, becoming Zacian-lite with Embody Aspect boosting Hearthflame's Attack every time it comes in.
However Hearthflame Ogerpon has its issues as well. Thanks to the item being locked to the Hearthflame Mask, Hearthflame Ogerpon is incredibly exposed to entry hazards, drastically cutting into its durability. Fire Grass also cancels out several of the resistances the base typings have, leaving Hearthflame taking extra damage from Pokémon you would otherwise expect it to check. And while Fire does greatly expand Ogerpon's coverage, four moveslot syndrome is still a major issue, preventing Hearthflame from covering everything it would like to. Nevertheless, Hearthflame Ogerpon has proven itself to be a game warping threat that must be respected.
Positives
Base 120 Attack is immense, and with Fire-Grass STAB, very little can stand in Hearthflame Ogerpon's way.
Great movepool with several coverage options, boosting in Swords Dance and invaluable support in U-Turn and Knock Off
Base 110 Speed is incredible, getting the jump on several offensive Pokémon.
Mold Breaker is a boon, invalidating several potential checks.
Embody Aspect pushes Hearthflame's power through the roof effectively being Intrepid Sword
Negatives
Locked to the Hearthflame Mask leaves Hearthflame Ogerpon bereft of item options like Heavy Duty Boots and Choice Scarf.
Hearthflame struggles to fit all the coverage it wants in a single set.
Fire-Grass is lacks on several key resistances, which in combination with exposure to entry Hazards further worsens Hearthflame's bulk.
Unable to change Tera Types deprives Hearthflame Ogerpon of both offensive and defensive options.
Movesets

EVs and Nature:

Jolly Nature
Swords Dance Hearthflame Ogerpon acts as a late game sweeper or mid game wallbreaker, grabbing a Swords Dance to push its Attack to ludicrous levels. Ivy Cudgel is Hearthflame's only Fire STAB and thankfully an incredible one, offering great base power and high crit chance with no drawbacks. Horn Leech is the preferred Grass STAB, enabling Hearthflame to recover damage incurred from entry hazards and while setting up, making it far more reliable in the long run. Knock Off rounds out the set, offering both invaluable item disruption and wide neutral coverage, giving Hearthflame more utility in the early game.
Tera Types:
Hearthflame Ogerpon loves Terstalizing once its checks have been removed, pushing its Attack even higher and bolstering Ivy Cudgel to ruinous levels of power. Embody Aspect also enables Ogerpon to act as a wrecking ball throughout the in game, able to come in and immediately deal damage without any extra setup needed. It is best to do this when your opponents Water and Ground types are weakened as missing the KO on them will lead to Hearthflame being knocked out.
EVs and Items:
Max Attack and Speed are recommended. You want as much power as possible to take advantage of Swords Dance. A speed boosting nature is all but mandatory -Ogerpon loses out against several important Pokémon without Max Speed; Garchomp, Enamorus, Walking Wake, and Iron Moth that it could otherwise more reliably threaten with Jolly. Item is locked as Hearthflame Mask, no decision points there, though the flat 1.2 boost to all attacks is still quite the boost.
Partners:
Azumarill is an excellent partner for Hearthflame Ogerpon. Fire and Grass is resisted by both Fire and Dragon types so Azumarill's Water Fairy STAB covering both is invaluable for Hearthflame Ogerpon. Azumarill in turn loves Hearthflame reliably tearing opposing Grass and Water types apart. Greninja and Walking Wake fill similar niches, the former's Protean and the latter's STAB enabling them to easily check Dragon types.
Landorus Therian is another excellent partner for Flame Hearth, the combination of Intimidate and U-Turn greatly facilitating Swords Dance setups, while covering opposing Poison and Flying types with Ground STAB and Stone Edge respectively. Or setting up Stealth Rock for extra chip.
Hearthflame Ogerpon in turn smashes opposing Water types with Grass STAB as well as Corviknight who otherwise steadfastly walls Landorus Therian. Sandy Shocks fills a similar niche, swapping out U-Turn for Volt Switch and loving Hearthflame Ogerpon destroying Grass types in turn.
Sun setters like Koraidon, Groudon and Torkoal are terrifying enablers for Hearthflame, considering how hard it already hits when Terastalized. The former can act as a pivot to get Hearthflame in safely, the middle can burn and setup hazards to enable a sweep while checking Eternatus and the latter opens up setup opportunities with Yawn and offering hazard control with Rapid Spin.
Other Options:
Play Rough -covers Dragon types that resist both Fire and Grass STAB, but does leave you rather exposed to opposing Fire types.
Stomping Tantrum -covers opposing Fire types that resist both STABs, but misses out on Flying Dragons like Dragonite.
Wood Hammer -far stronger than any other Grass move that Hearthflame Ogerpon has and can definitely make the difference against Pokémon like Dondozo and Great Tusk, but the recoil and Hearthflame's exposure to entry hazards means that Ogerpon will go down far sooner than later.
Trailblaze -STAB option for a sort of double Dance set enabling Hearthflame to reach the few targets it can't outspeed. However the power drop from Horny Leech is significant, and it can mean between choosing a stronger Grass STAB or further coverage.
VGC & Doubles Options
Despite lacking the amazing Defiant Ability, Hearthflame Ogerpon has taken the doubles format by Firestorm. Again Ogerpon's base movepool shines through, Spikey Shield, Encore, and Follow Me all being amazing moves for any Pokémon. Ogerpon's typing also does it a lot of favors, being a Grass type that resists Fairy, and is not weak to Ice covers two of the biggest running around in Flutter Mane and Chien-Pao. And the coverage from Fire Grass STAB is wide, hitting many popular targets including opposing Grass types Amoongus, Rillaboom, and Sinistcha, Urshifu-Rapid, Gholdengo and Dondozo. And many of these Pokémon had Water or Grass as their preferred Terastalization options, neither of which are safe against Hearthflame Ogerpon. Mold Breaker is invaluable in invalidating Heatran making Hearthflame Ogerpon even harder to stop. While there are other Fire types like Torkoal and Armarouge that can better handle Hearthflame, Hearthflame Ogerpon must be planned for lest it smash your team to pieces.
Burning Leaves
-Ivy Cudgel
-Horn Leech
-Spikey Shield
-Swords Dance
Ability: Mold Breaker
Item: Hearthflame Mask
EVs and Nature:
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
This Hearthflame Ogerpon set acts as a general attacker using its wide coverage and great power to bust through opposing Pokémon and pick up KOs. Ivy Cudgel is mandatory, being Hearthflame's only Fire STAB and boosted to outright terrifying levels post Terastalization granting effective Adaptability and + 1 Attack. Horn Leech enables Hearthflame to stay healthy while applying offensive pressure and valuable coverage in that. Spikey Shield is an upgraded version of Protect, impossible to Imprison and offering useful chip damage to direct contact attackers against Ogerpon. Swords Dance rounds out the set, enabling Ogerpon to counteract opposing Intimidates or become a threat that must be answer lest it take over the battle.
Other Options and Preferred Partners:
Grassy Glide -Rillaboom is rather popular and Hearthflame Ogerpon can take advantage of that popularity to get an invaluable priority move for picking off Flutter Mane and Chien-Pao, who otherwise outspeed Ogerpon.
Stomping Tantrum -covers opposing Fire types and Tera Fire users. The prevalence of Fake Out makes it rather easy to activate the bonus damage effect.
Tornadus -offers invaluable Speed Control with prankster Tailwind and Icy Wind, helping Ogerpon more reliably check Flutter Mane and Chien-Pao as well as setting up Sun to turn Hearthflame into a veritable nuke.
Chien-Pao -Ruinous Sword helps push Hearthflame's damage to even higher levels and helps by checking the occasional Dragon.
Empoleon -an active deterrent to Intimidate and ruins most Fire types alongside threatening Flutter Mane and Chien-Pao with Steel STAB.
Countering Ogerpon Hearthflame Mask
Hearthflame's overwhelming power works somewhat against it, making it far more predictable than the normal Teal Mask form as support moves like Encore and Spikes are rarer. Hearthflame Ogerpon is still incredibly difficult to deal with, especially Swords Dance sets due to Mold Breaker invalidating Unaware Walls like Skeledirge and Clodsire, and Heatran's Flash Fire. And due to being a Fire type, burning with Will-O-Wisp is not an option either.
There are still a few answers however. Moltres is a wall pre Terastalization and can threaten with STAB Air Slash or Hurricane, but post Terastalization, a Swords Dance boosted Hearthflame Ogerpon reliably 2HKOs.
Other checks are dependent on Ogerpon's coverage. Ogerpon lacking Stomping Tantrum struggle against opposing Fire types like Torkoal, and Armarouge who can tank an attack and strike back with their own STAB that won't be resisted. Iron Moth can do well against Ogerpon pre Swords Dance with Poison STAB but otherwise desperately needs to win the Speed tie.
Dragon types excel when Hearthflame isn't running Play Rough. Salamence and Roaring Moon can reliably pivot in and OHKO Ogerpon with their STABs while Banded/Specs Dragapult needs to avoid Knock Off as well, but can do the same.
Ironically Hearthflame becomes easier to hand post Terastalization despite the higher Attack thanks to the absence of Mold Breaker, Heatran, Skeledirge and Dragonite become more viable checks. Revenge killing Hearthflame with Sneasler, Koraidon, and Miraidon are also viable options as Hearthflame Ogerpon's speed is not peerless.
Ogerpon, the Mask Pokémon. This form excels in both attack and defense. It ceaselessly unleashes moves like a spring gushes water. In this form, it draws on the power of water. It attacks unrelentingly with kicks and ivy strikes.
Overview
Wellspring Ogerpon boasts arguably the best defensive capabilities of Ogerpon's Masks. The extra immunity Water Absorb provides alongside the natural healing Horn Leech and Leech Seed makes Wellspring incredibly sticky. And like all Ogerpon masks, Wellspring is no slouch in the power and speed department, outspeeding the vast majority of metagame and striking hard, invested or not. These traits come together to turn Wellspring into one of the best answers against opposing Water type Pokémon, able to freely switch into their Water STAB and threaten them with its own Grass STAB. Wellspring Mask has the best defensive Terastalization as well, wiping away its three weaknesses in turn for the great defenses that Base Water types enjoy on top of the Special Defense boost embody Aspect provides.
,p> Wellspring Ogerpon is far from perfect. Water and Grass have few resistances, leaving Wellspring to often take more damage than it would like, and struggles to fit in coverage for both Grass and Dragon types due to lack of Ice moves. And like all Ogerpon's alternative forms, being locked to a specific mask and Tera Type drastically cuts down on Wellspring's flexibility and struggles to answer the faster threats on its own.Positives
Base 120 Attack is incredible, and Ogerpon has the coverage and boosting in Swords Dance to abuse it, or just hit hard uninvested.
Base 110 Speed is great, getting the jump of the vast majority of the unboosted competition
Wide movepool, enabling Ogerpon to perform a variety of roles, both offensive and defensive.
Water Absorb and Grass STAB make Ogerpon a natural answer to opposing Water Types
Negatives
Lacks Ice moves for answering Grass and Dragon types that resist both STABs.
Struggles to fit all the moves it wants onto one set, always having to sacrifice utility or coverage.
Item locked to the Wellspring Mask and Terastalization locked to Water deprive Wellspring a number of offensive and defensive options.

Wellspring Ogerpon gets the most mileage out of Encore, having an active immunity in Water Absorb to abuse. Pivot into a Water type attack and use Encore to trap them into a move that doesn't damage you. Then U-Turn out to counter their predicted switch and maintain momentum. Or trap a setup sweeper into a setup move that leaves them a sitting duck. Or use Horn Leech to shake off damage and stay healthy so you can repeatedly stymie Water and Ground types throughout the battle. Ivy Cudgel is Wellspring's only Water STAB and is excellent for damage as a result. Wellspring Ogerpon excels as a teammate that deals with opposing Water types and is welcome on any team that desperately needs such coverage as well as enable setup opportunities for teammates.
Tera Types:
While lacking the immediate power of the Teal and Hearthflame Masks, Wellspring does enjoy Terastalizing, albeit more sparingly. If you have no need of Wellspring's Water Immunity, or need it to stick around, Water Terastalization is a good pivot, wiping out all its weaknesses and adding the sorely missed Ice and Fire weaknesses that were cancelled out by its Grass sub-typing on top of an extra Special Defense boost further improving Wellsprings defensive capabilities. The power boost to Ivy Cudgel is respectable as well, especially in Rain, pushing Wellspring's power to levels similar to Hearthflame's.
EVs and Items:
Max HP and Speed are recommended to balance both bulk and speed, enabling Wellspring to get the jump on as many targets as possible to trap them with Encore and Max HP to do so repeatedly. Attack investment can be considered, especially if running Swords Dance or on a Rain team to get the most damage out of Ivy Cudgel. Item is locked to Wellspring mask, providing a 1.2 bonus to all damaging attacks.
Partners:
Great Tusk, Ting-Lu, and Landorus-Therian all love Wellspring as an active pivot into the Water attacks they draw and in turn they answer Poison types with their own STABs, while and optionally Flying and Bug types with Rock coverage. The switches Encore Wellspring forces also synergizes nicely with any entry hazards they set, helping rack up more damage.
Pelipper and Politoed and the rain teams they enable also find Wellspring to be an invaluable ally. The biggest stop to rain offense tends to be opposing Water types, so having a Pokémon that can naturally handle most Water types is an incredible boon. They in turn enable Wellspring with the Rain, pushing Ivy Cudgel to terrifying levels of damage, with Wellspring Ogerpon being one of the better non Swift Swim Rain Abusers.
Other Options:
Spikes -another way to abuse opponents locked via Encore is to setup Spikes for more damage.
Swords Dance -key to offensive sets and Encore is great at generating opportunities for Wellspring to setup.
Play Rough -answers Dragon types that otherwise resist both STABs.
VGC & Doubles Options
Wellspring Ogerpon's Water Absorb makes it an even more effective user of Follow Me in comparison to its contemporaries, able to readily soak up more attacks and stay healthy. Grass Water is a decent type combination with few weaknesses to exploit, which helps Wellspring stick around despite its merely decent bulk. Excelling in Rain is another boon given the strength of Weather in Doubles while syncing naturally with Tornadus, one of the most popular support Pokémon right now. However, Wellspring often lacks the space to answer the many other popular Grass types running around, being completely stymied by Rillaboom, Sinatcha and Amoongus which can make it more unreliable than can be desirable.

-Follow Me
-Encore
-Horn Leech
-Spikey Shield
Ability: Water Absorb
Item: Wellspring Mask
EVs and Nature:
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature
The most defensive of Ogerpon's form's, Wellspring is also one of the most disruptive with this set. Follow me is amazing in protecting Water weak partners or just outright nullifying Aqua Jets from opposing Urshifu-Rapid and Dragonite while safely absorbing Fake Outs so a teammate can setup in peace. Encore remains one of the most disruptive move in doubles, due to the myriad of moves that do nothing when forced to repeat such as Protect, Tailwind, weather, Screens, and Trick Room, often forcing a switch and sapping momentum from the opposing team. Horn Leech keeps Wellspring Healthy throughout the match and helps it remove the Water types that threaten its teammates. Spikey Shield rounds out the set as the best move in Doubles, offering invaluable scouting and stalling capability. It can also combo well with Encore, likely forcing a contact attacker to take damage from the Spikey Shield.
Terastalization is rarely need, but great for matchups without opposing Water types and avoiding Flying STAB from Dragonite and Tera Flying Landorus-T on top of the bonus of soaking up Special Attacks.
Other Options and Preferred Partners:
Ivy Cudgel -Wellspring's only Water STAB and a good attack regardless. Highly recommended if running a more offensive Wellspring Ogerpon.
Arcanine-H and Landorus Therian make wonderful partners for Wellspring Ogerpon, their Intimidate helping blunt opposing physical attacks so Ogerpon can survive longer while Ogerpon helps them dodge the deadly Water (and Ground in the case of the former) attacks sent their way. Heatran loves Wellspring as a partner, reducing the need for it to Terastalize so early on.
Countering Ogerpon Wellspring Mask
Due to Wellspring's Specialization against opposing Water types, using them as a lure to get Ogerpon in and eliminate them is recommended. Tera Grass Dondozo stands out, able to reliably wall once it is no longer a Water type and eliminate Ogerpon with Body Press, but admittedly struggles to get the OHKO. Tera Fairy Azumarill is another example, using the pivot to survive Horn Leech and OHKO with its boosted STAB.
Ogerpon's moveset once again constrains what checks it by what coverage move it is running. Grass types greatly excel if Wellspring is missing U-Turn, with Meowscara, and Amoonguss both pivoting in and either outspeeding and OHKOing or just straight up walling in the case of the latter. Lacking Play Rough gives opposing Dragon types like Roaring Moon, Dragonite and Dragapult plenty of opportunity to switch in and threaten with their own STABs.
Toxapex is also annoying, having the bulk to stand up to even boosted attacks, wipe away Swords Dance boosts with Haze and place Tealmask on a timer with Toxic and/or Infestation. Otherwise revenge killing Wellspring can be done with Cinderace and Meowscarada both naturally outspeeding and have super effective coverage, while Sneasler outright threatens with STAB.
Ogerpon, the Mask Pokémon. This form has excellent defenses, absorbing impacts solidly like the cornerstones that support houses. In this form, it draws on the power of stone. Its body is rock-solid, protecting it from all manner of attacks.
Overview
While the Pokédex is far from a bastion of truth, the comments regarding Ogerpon’s Cornerstone Mask really miss the mark. Grass Rock is the worst form defensively, only resisting Normal and Electric in exchange for common Fighting, Steel and Ice weaknesses (and less common Bug). The Defense boost from Cornerstone’s Terastalization is laughable given how poor Pure Rock is defensively, making it even easier to prey upon Ogerpon’s added weaknesses and it can’t even fix that with a different Tera Type. Being locked to the Cornerstone Mask for an item further worsens Cornerstone’s defensive woes, leaving it exposed to entry hazards which deactivate the fantastic Sturdy.
Offensively, Cornerstone Ogerpon is terrifying. Grass Rock has wide super effective coverage and Ogerpon has several moves to answer the Steel types that resist both STABs. And unlike most Rock types, Cornerstone is blisteringly fast at base 110 Speed apply to apply the full offensive pressure of its STAB and high Attack. And if you can keep Sturdy active, it is a powerful tool for Cornerstone, guaranteeing safe setup, whether that be for Swords Dance or Spikes and can help stymie a faster revenge killer. While Cornerstone’s defensive issues do cause it problems, at the end of the day, it is still Ogerpon and must be respected as such.
Positives
ncredibly complimentary STABs that cover almost the entire type chart and Stomping Tantrum and Fighting coverage for the Steel types it doesn’t.
Base 120 Attack that can be boosted further with Swords Dance ensures Cornerstone hits incredibly hard with its STABs.
Base 110 Speed gets the jump on most of Ogerpon’s competition, enabling it to apply offensive pressure
Ivy Cudgel is the only available accurate physical Rock attack.
Sturdy is a fantastic tool for guaranteeing setup…
Negatives
…if the Cornerstone Mask wasn’t locked as the item, making it difficult to maintain Sturdy and constraining options for Cornerstone Ogerpon.
Grass Rock is poor defensively have few resists and several common weaknesses, making it difficult for Cornerstone to pivot in.
Locked to Tera Rock with a Defense boost gives Cornerstone the worst Terastalization, only saved by the Boost to Ivy Cudgel.

Cornerstone Ogerpon excels as a late game sweeper, taking advantage of its checks being softened or removed to come in, hopefully use Sturdy to safely setup Swords Dance and attempt to sweep. Ivy Cudgel is the best available physical Rock STAB, being the only one with perfect accuracy. Rock type attackers have been struggling to make a mark with the large glut of Ground and Steel types currently running around, Great Tusk, Ting-Lu, Gholdengo, and Kingambit all common pivots into Rock attacks. Cornerstone is different, with STAB Horn Leech and Stomping Tantrum leaving these checks far from safe and much harder to pivot safely to stop Cornerstone’s assault. Horn Leech is preferred Grass STAB helping recover damage incurred from setting up and entry hazards, ideally reactivating Sturdy.
Tera Types:
Being locked to Rock Terastalization with a boost to defense is incredibly poor for Ogerpon. Rock’s many weaknesses make it difficult to capitalize on the defense boost, especially when gaining an incredibly common Ground weakness in turn for Fire, Flying and Poison resistances. The boost to Ivy Cudgel is the only saving grace, and admittedly is a good one with how rare Rock attacks are otherwise. You are still better of Terastalizing another attacker.
Partners:
Cinderace makes for a decent partner for Cornerstone, able to reliably clear Hazards with Court Change while melting Corviknight who is a big wall for Cornerstone otherwise. Hazard Control is invaluable for Cornerstone who really likes Sturdy and needs to be as healthy as possible to guarantee the sweep. Any Pokémon, like Great Tusk, Corviknight, or Magic Bounce Hatterene that can keep hazards off will go a long way in enabling Cornerstone Ogerpon.
Galarian Slowking is also recommended, its slow Chilly Reception fantastic for getting Cornerstone in safely. Its ability to cripple attackers with Yawn or Thunder Wave to help Cornerstone setup safely and provide speed control against faster attackers further increases value. Shed Tail users like Cyclizar and Orthworm can also get Cornerstone in safely for setup as well. Healing Wish Enamorus-T is another option to safely get Cornerstone in and enables Cornerstone to act as a sweeper multiple times, giving it more early and midgame use.
Other Options:
Wood Hammer/Power Whip -Far stronger Grass STABs which can be necessary given the high Defense of most Ground type and Dondozo targets, though Cornerstone loves the possibility of reactivating Sturdy with Horn Leech
Superpower/Low Kick -Alternative options for Levitate/Air Balloon Steels, but you lose out on hitting Gholdengo.
Countering Ogerpon Cornerstone Mask
The most important thing to do is never give Cornerstone an opportunity to setup. Constantly apply pressure so no window opens where it can Swords Dance and rip your team apart. Entry Hazards are vital for breaking Sturdy so faster attackers in Greninja, Scarf Great Tusk, Cinderace, and Zamazenta can preemptively eliminate Cornerstone or revenge KO it before it gets out of hand. Priority users like Ice Shard Weavile and Bullet Punch Scizor can also easily revenge KO Cornerstone and stop a sweep in its tracks.
Air Balloon Gholdengo also works, able to eat a resisted STAB and able to easily OHKO with Make It Rain, as well as against any Cornerstone lacking Stomping Tantrum. Do be warned post Swords Dance, Ivy Cudgel does 2HKO, so Gholdengo does need to be healthy.
As much as Cornerstone seems an unstoppable force, it needs a lot of support to get there. It struggles to get in safely and setup in the first place, and only becomes difficult once it does.
