The POP Series 1 set was introduced by Nintendo as an incentive for players to continue to play in the Pokémon Organised Play leagues during the gap between releases. This set was released shortly after EX: FireRed & LeafGreen.. Like all subsequent POP sets it has 17 cards made mostly out of Promo cards. Due to its positioning, it contains two Pokémon ex.
