Crabominable

Crabominable, The Woolly Crab Pokémon. It aimed for the top but got lost and ended up on a snowy mountain. Being forced to endure the cold, this Pokémon evolved and grew fur. It just throws punches indiscriminately. In times of desperation, it can lop off its own pincers and fire them like rockets. It stores coldness in its pincers and pummels its foes. It can even smash thick walls of ice to bits! Before it stops to think, it just starts pummeling. There are records of its turning back avalanches with a flurry of punches.

Overview

An interesting typing and neat design, Crabominable is a notable threat in some tiers due to its monstrous attack for the tier. However as most competitive players will tell you, while being a fantastic type offensively Ice is terrible on the defensive side, often hindering the would be powerhouse due to it gaining weaknesses compared to the Fighting competition it faces. With a Choice Scarf and access to U-Turn on Primeape and Hitmonchan having priority and great bulk with an Assault Vest, Crabominable struggles to find a home due to its less splashable nature, but still is a potent threat that can rip apart slower teams in the right hands.
Positives
High Attack - The main selling point of Crabominable is its huge Attack, the highest in PU. This means that Crabominable can be a powerful pivot with and Assault Vest or Wallbreaker as a Trick Room abuser. This in conjunction with its potent offensive typing of Ice/Fighting can make it hard to wall due to a combination of power, STAB, and coverage.

Negatives
Speed - Crabominable suffers from what a lot of Pokemon released in Generation 7 do, that being low base Speed. This changes Crabominable from what could have been a glass cannon into a slow niche wall breaker with subpar defensive typing. While it can still be used to decent extent as its 132 base Attack is nothing to scoff at, it faces a lot of competition from other Fighting types such as Assault Vest Hitmonchan and Choice Scarf Primeape.

Abilities

Anger Point - Maximizes Attack when hit with a critical hit - Niche but can be an interesting thing when it gets pulled off
Hyper Cutter - Prevents Attack drop - Its alright, Intimidate isn't super common in PU so not really worth over Iron Fist or Anger Point
Iron Fist - Raises punch based attacks power by 1.2 - Solid, Crabominable has a lot of punch based attacks so a free consistent damage buff is nice to have

Movesets

Assault Vest

-Drain Punch
-Ice Hammer
-Thunder Punch
-Stone Edge/Earthquake
Item Attached: Assault Vest
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs and Nature:
252 HP/4 Atk/252 SpDef
Adamant Nature

With an Assault Vest to help Crabominable find ways in on threats such as Aurorus and Rotom allowing Crabominable to flex its power. Drain Punch is a nice STAB option as well as a form of recover to help with its neutrality to Stealth Rocks and vulnerability to Spikes. Ice Hammer is the second STAB and with more power than Ice Punch, still benefiting from Iron Fist, and the Speed drop being negligible it's the far superior choice. Thunder Punch allows Crabominable to hit some key walls such as Qwilfish and Jellicent that resist both STAB moves. Finally, Stone Edge or Earthquake take the last slot to hit threats such as Articuno or Skuntank respectfully harder, aiding in wall breaking.

Brave Attacker

-Power Up Punch/Earthquake
-Close Combat
-Ice Hammer
-Stone Edge
Item Attached: Life Orb/Choice Band
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs and Nature:
252 HP/252 Atk/4 SpDef
Brave Nature

With low base Speed and Ice Hammer being turned into an effective +1 under it, Crabominable is a powerful Trick Room abuser. Power Up Punch is an option to just work up its attack to higher levels but Earthquake can also be used for threats such as Skuntank and Qwilfish. Close Combat takes the slot of STAB of choice due to its immense power. Finally Stone Edge secures KOes on threats such as Articuno and helps with Swanna.

Other Options

Substitute- While just shy of the magic 101 Substitute, Crabominable can still make meaty Substitutes and can look to hit Pokemon that would revenge kill it hard, but its poor defensive typing hurts this set.

Possible Partners

Mespirit - One of the best partners for Crabominable with the ability to pressure Fighting threats, namely Hitmonchan. This combined with Mespirits immense utility with moves such as U-Turn and Healing Wish to get Crabominable in safety, Healing Wish in particular being noteworthy due to fully healing Crabominable and Stealth Rocks to support damage.
Spiritomb - Similar to Mesprit in its ability to handle Fighting threats, Spiritomb also Pursuit traps Psychic ones such as Mespirit itself. This in conjunction with its ability to check Primape much easier then Mesprit as well as being a good Trick Room abuser and decent setter itself allowing for Crabominable to be a more powerful threat.

Countering Crabominable

Qwilfish/Jellicent - While often packing coverage for it, Intimidate with Qwilfish good natural bulk can allow it to pivot into Crabominable effectively. Access to Toxic can also cripple Crabominable for the duration of the fight if done early which can secure a game. Jellecent on the other hand has immunity to Fighting and is often less covered due to needing specifically Thunder Punch. Will-O-Wisp is the status of choice here, arguable crippling Crabominable more due to its Attack being its main selling point. [?IMG]
