Frosmoth, The Frost Moth Pokémon. Icy scales fall from its wings like snow as it flies over fields and mountains. The temperature of its wings is less than -290 degrees Fahrenheit. It shows no mercy to any who desecrate fields and mountains. It will fly around on its icy wings, causing a blizzard to chase offenders away.
Overview
Frosmoth was introduced with much hype in opening of generation 8 thanks to its similarities to Volcarona and a very deadly Ice STAB to work. However, excitement quickly cooled as Frosmoth’s flaws became apparent. Ice is horrible defensively and Frosmoth is ludicrously vulnerable to entry hazards and physical attacks. Additionally, in comparison to Volcarona’s blazing Base 100 Speed, Frosmoth sits at a paltry base 60, leaving it prone to being outsped even after a Quiver Dance. Furthermore, Ice and Bug is not as synergistic as Fire and Bug leaving Frosmoth walled by most Steel types. While Frosmoth is a deadly Quiver Dance sweeper, its flaws and excessive team support requirements leave it wanting.
Positives
Ice Scales is an amazing ability, making Frosmoth superbly bulky against most special attacks, even before Quiver Dance.
Quiver Dance is one of the best boosting moves in the game and Frosmoth has the movepool and Special stats to abuse it.
Negatives
Ice Bug is horrible defensively, leaving Frosmoth extremely exposed to entry hazards and several nasty weaknesses further exasperated by a paltry base 60 Defense.
Base 65 Speed means that setting up is difficult without taking a hit first and that it takes multiple Quiver Dances to reliably outspeed opponents.
Lacks coverage to deal with Steel types who resist both of Frosmoth's STABs.

Timid Nature
Frosmoth functions as a late game cleaner, coming in on a Special Attack after its answers have been removed, Quiver Dancing and going for the sweep. Bug Buzz and Ice Beam are reliable STABs and have a wide range of super effective coverage. Hurricane provides answers to Fighting types that resist Bug Buzz, like Thick Fat Hariyama and Urshifu Rapid, but is mostly here for its Dynamax benefits.
DYNAMAX:
Dynamax makes Frosmoth amazingly bulky against Special Attacks and pushes its power to the next level. Max Hailstorm is an amazing STAB move that provides extra chip damage for reaching those important KOs while Hurricane empowered Max Airstream helps patch up Frosmoth’s speed woes, reducing the amount of times it needs to Quiver Dance while maintaining momentum.
EVs and Items:
Standard Sweeper array to maximize the effectiveness of Quiver Dancing. Frosmoth’s achilles heels are to numerous for any bulk increase to be worthwhile. Due to Frosmoth’s low speed, Timid is near mandatory. Losing out on Timid means that Frosmoth can be outsped by positive natured Base 110+ Pokemon like Tauros, Lycanroc Day and Cinderace, while Timid Frosmoth can outspeed up to Base 121 Pokemon like Tornadus Therian. Heavy Duty Boots is mandatory for Frosmoth to function, as losing half your HP to Stealth Rock makes setting up Quiver Dance impossible, let alone the other entry hazards.
Other Options:
Blizzard -Makes for a much more powerful Max Hailstorm and synergizes well with Hail, but due to Frosmoth’s status as a late game cleaner, it can be hard to preserve Dynamax that long.
Giga Drain -Gives Frosmoth some badly needed recovery to offset the damage taken when setting up and counters Bug resistant Water types
Psychic -Max Mindstorm’s anti Priority attributes are great and answers both Bug Resistant Fighting and Poison types.
Partners:
Pokémon that answer Fire and Steel types that resist both of Frosmoth’s STABs are invaluable. Muddsdale, and Rhyperior are standout options thanks to their high Defense complimenting Frosmoth’s Special Defense and thus their propensity to attract Special Attackers that Frosmoth can setup on. Sampert and Quagsire also fair well thanks to resisting Fire and drawing Grass types that Frosmoth excels against.
Countering Frosmoth
Steel types fare well against Frosmoth, having a super effective STAB and resisting all of Frosmoth’s moves, thus requiring Frosmoth to setup to even have a chance of beating them. Stakkataka, and Escavalier standout for having excellent Special Defense enabling them to take even Quiver Dance boosted attacks. Fire types also resist both of Frosmoth’s STABs, if not its coverage moves and can easily prey on its Quadruple Fire weakness. Otherwise, if you fail to stop the Quiver Dance, Frosmoth at +1 is still very capable of being outsped. Many Choice Scarfed Pokémon, Weavile, Aerodactyl, Ninjask, Crobat and Dragapult all outspeed and can easily OHKO Frosmoth thanks to its pitiful Defense, though none of these like switching into it.
