The Japan Championships 2023 are the Championships that allow players from Japan to earn a place in the Pokémon World Championships. Entry to the competition is earned through a variety of competitions.

VGC
Players in VGC earn their place by ranking high in the Global Challenge 1, Global Challenge 2 and Global Challenge 3 online competitions. The top 150 players from the International Challenges will be invited to a special online qualifying tournament where the Top 64 then get invited to the Japan Championships.

GO
Players in Pokémon GO will need to earn entry in various online competitions held by The Pokémon Company, as well as special tournaments held at Pokémon Centers across Japan.

UNITE
Players in Pokémon UNITE compete through multiple means. In April, 8 teams from the Google Play Cup and April Finals will get invited to April Finals Day 2 with the Top 3 teams going to the Japan Championships. In May, the Top 8 from the Famitsu Cup and May Finals go to Day 2 Finals where 3 Teams get through. Then, in June, the Top 8 teams from the MIrrativ Cup and top 2 to 9 teams from the June Finals go through to the second stage which 2 teams going forward to the Japan Championships. 4 Teams then go forward to the World Championships

VGC Rule Set:

Usable Games Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Battle Type: Double Battle
Pokémon Restrictions: Available Paldea Pokédex.
Banned Pokémon: Galarian Meowth, Wooper, Quagsire, Perrserker, Koraidon, Miraidon, Walking Wake, Iron Leaves
Pokémon Limits: Team of 4 to 6 Pokémon from Level 1 to Level 100. All Pokémon then set to Level 50
Match Length: No limit
Clauses: No same Pokémon, No same item
Players may only use Pokémon with items or moves obtained in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Match Time: 15 Minutes
Your Time: 7 minutes

GO Rule Set:

League Format: Great League
Max CP: 1500 CP
