Deoxys, The DNA Pokémon. An alien virus that fell to earth on a meteorite underwent a DNA mutation to become this Pokémon. The DNA of a space virus underwent a sudden mutation upon exposure to a laser beam and resulted in Deoxys. The crystalline organ on this Pokémon's chest appears to be its brain. Deoxys emerged from a virus that came from space. It is highly intelligent and wields psychokinetic powers. This Pokémon shoots lasers from the crystalline organ on its chest.
Overview
This mythical Alien has entranced fans ever since the third generation and one of the first truly effective implementations of form changes with each form having distinct niches and play styles. However, Deoxys Normal is by far the least used for good reason.
While its speed and offenses are impressive, the fact is that its paper thin defenses leave it a less optimized version of Deoxys Attack. And thanks to both forms having the same effective moveset, there is no reason you would ever use Deoxys Normal over Deoxys Attack when the latter is available.
Positives
Base 150 Speed is blisteringly fast. Few Pokémon can hope to outspeed Deoxys without priority or some method of Speed Control.
Base 150 Offenses enables Deoxys to hit hard from either side of the attacking spectrum.
Wide moveset thanks to all of its forms and wide TM list make Deoxys hard to predict
Negatives
Paper thin 50 defenses across the board and lackluster typing make Deoxys trivially easy to knock out.
Completely outclassed by Deoxys Attack.

Item Attached: Focus Sash

EVs and Nature:
4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
Deoxys Normal does its best to leverage its amazing attack and speed against the opposing team as a fast attacker and revenge killer, meant to take down an opponent and soften another before being taken down itself. Shadow Ball is the move of choice. Thanks the many, many Psychic types (and Giratina) running around in Ubers, having a reliable answer to them is a must, especially considering Deoxys’ normal STAB Psychic, while potent, is so commonly resisted. Thunderbolt rounds out the set, giving Deoxys a reliable answer to special walls Ho-Oh, Lugia and Kyogre, making them all think twice about switching in. Stealth Rock rounds out the set. If Deoxys is going to die no matter what, have it support the team. Or if you expect a switch into a check or counter, have Deoxys punish the switch before getting the heck out of dodge.
Dynamax
Deoxys is unable to Dynamax at the time of this writing.
EVs and Items
Max Special Attack and Speed for the most power possible. Focus Sash is near mandatory to ensure Deoxys can take at least one hit before going down.
Partners
Deoxys Normal fits best on hyper offense teams, taking advantage of the likes of Extreme Killer Arceus, Dialga, Kyogre, to blitz teams down before they can respond.
Forretress also makes for a great partner, able to setup invaluable Entry Hazards while clearing away opposing ones with Rapid Spin, enabling Deoxys Normal to reach for KOs it couldn’t, avoid being outsped by most Choice Scarf users, and maintaining its own Focus Sash
Other Options
Ice Beam -for the many powerful Dragons and Groudon in the format. However, doesn’t answer Ho-oh and Kyogre.
Dark Pulse -effectively interchangeable with Shadow Ball.
Knock Off -a powerful attack, and Item Disruption if it doesn’t KO
Zen Headbutt/Superpower -powerful physical options for Deoxys if you don’t want to run special.
Countering Deoxys
The most difficult part about KOing Deoxys is not knocking it out -that is a trivial task with its paper thin defenses. The difficult part about KOing Deoxys is doing so without incurring too much damage. Thanks to its massive Speed and Offenses, there are few if any safe switch ins to Deoxys Normal. Blissey readily handles Special sets, but is maimed by even uninvested Superpower and Psyshock can prey on a weakened Blissey. Skarmory performs similarly against Physical sets, but again crumples to uninvested Thunderbolt.
Priority is the most reliable way of dealing with Deoxys Normal. Its only recourse is Extremespeed which is insufficient in reaching the OHKO threshold for many healthy threats. Extreme Killer Arceus noticeably stands out thanks to its fantastic bulk, though Rayquaza can also cover if Focus Sash is broken.
Having a Choice Scarfer revenge KO Deoxys is also a viable option. Scarf Mewtwo, Kyogre, Palkia, etc. are all massive threats that outspeed Deoxys and OHKO it.

Overview
Few Pokémon epitomize Glass Cannon as effectively as Deoxys Attack. Utterly bonkers base 180 Attack in both stats alongside a mind boggling Base 150 Speed makes Deoxys Attack a near peerless offensive threat. True, there are other Pokémon that can exceed Deoxys Attack's attack with little to no setup, but often only on one side of the spectrum while Deoxys can threaten on both sides even if only one side is invested. In Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, the number of Pokémon that natively outspeed Deoxys Attack can be counted on one hand. Thus it will be going first unless the opponent has some external speed boost. That coupled with its wide coverage options makes Deoxys Attack nigh unwallable.
However, the Glass in Glass Cannon is equally as apparent. Few Pokémon are as frail as Deoxys Attack, with only the most passive walls failing to OHKO Deoxys Attack. Deoxys Attack is entirely predicated on KOing its target before they can attack, for if they can't, Deoxys Attack will be KOd in turn. This leaves Deoxys Attack quaking in fear of priority moves that bypass its ridiculous speed. Deoxys Attack is constantly walking on a tightrope of KO or be KO'd, but its effectiveness cannot be denied.
PositivesWords fail on how good Base 180 Offenses are. Deoxys Attack can maim or outright OHKO anything that it attacks.
Wide Movepool makes Deoxys Attack unpredictable in coverage. It can cover many different threats while keeping your opponent guessing.
Base 150 Speed is amazing and makes Deoxys Attack near impossible to outspeed without Choice Scarf, setup or ability.
Negatives
Deoxys Attack is the frailest fully evolved Pokémon in the game. It cannot take a hit without severe damage if not being outright KOd.
No defense makes it hard to switch Deoxys Attack in safely.
Ability is useless

Rash Nature
Attack Deoxys is meant to function as a midgame attacker and revenge killer, coming in after a KO and ripping holes in the opposing team and picking off opponents weakened by Entry Hazards and Deoxys Attack's teammates. Psycho Boost is the perfect revenge killing tool, having insane power and threatening anything that doesn't resist it. Superpower answers the few Dark Types and many Steel types that otherwise resist or null Deoxys Attack's STAB like Dialga, and Arceus Dark. Knock Off offers valuable coverage against the many Psychic and Ghost types while being extremely spammable thanks to its Item Removal, while ignoring the Special Attack drop from Psycho Boost. Ice Beam rounds out the set, offering coverage against the many Flying (Lugia) and Dragon (Rayquaza) staples as well as Groudon.
Dynamax
Deoxys is unable to Dynamax at the time of this writing.
EVs and Items
Max Special Attack and Speed for as much power as possible on Deoxys Attack's Psycho Boost and Ice Beam, relying on the higher effective Base Power of Super Power and Knock Off to compensate. If you are not concerned about outrunning other Deoxys Attack, going for a Naďve Nature with 108 in Speed EVs will guarantee outrun Mewtwo. Life Orb is recommended for power, though Focus Sash is a classic choice to guard against Priority, though you must be careful in managing Entry Hazards for this to work.
Partners
Smeargle deserves mention as one of the few Sticky Web users available in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. With Sticky Web, even opposing Choice Scarf users and opposing Deoxys Attack cannot outspeed Deoxys Attack, making it incredibly unmanageable without priority. Other Entry Hazard setters like Stealth Rock Dialga/Groudon are highly recommended as well. Any extra damage piled on makes it that much harder to survive Deoxys Attack's attacks, and thus ensures its continued survival. Since Deoxys Attack thrives on hyper offense teams, the more offensive setters are recommended as opposed to passive setters.
Other Options
Psychic -doesn't tank Deoxys Attack's Special Attack after use, though the drop in power is significant.
Zen Headbutt -if going for a Physical Attack Deoxys, this is STAB of Choice
Extremespeed -An incredibly potent Priority option that guarantees Deoxys Attack damage on Arceus. Sadly does nothing to Giratina Origin.
Thunderbolt/Thunder -answers Kyogre and specially defensive fliers like Lugia and Ho-oh
Grass Knot -threatens Kyogre and Groudon, but not much else.
Shadow Ball/Dark Pulse -special options for threatening opposing Psychics like Mewtwo and Lugia
Checks & Counters
It is impossible to wall Deoxys Attack. Its move sets are too varied and its ability to mix and match effectively, even when uninvested prevents traditional dedicated walls from reliably answering Deoxys Attack. Lugia gets the closest, able comfortably tank even Special Attack Boosted Thunders… with Multiscale active. Once Multiscale is broken, by say Stealth Rock, Deoxys Attack can eat Lugia alive.
Choice Scarf users like Kyogre can reliably outspeed and OHKO Deoxys attack, but note that they must be running a Speed Boosting nature on their Choice Scarf set, or max Speed Deoxys Attack will still outspeed and OHKO them.
Priority is another reliable answer to Deoxys Attack, able to easily pick up a OHKO while ignoring its absurd speed… unless Deoxys Attack is running Extreme Speed. Arceus is probably the best answer, having the bulk to eat multiple Extremespeeds and reliably OHKO with its own. However, it cannot switch in to Deoxys Attack as a Psycho Boost + Extremespeed is a guaranteed KO on even Max HP Extreme Speed Arceus. Giratina Origin is also a credible Deoxys Attack threat, able to outright ignore Extremespeed and OHKO back with Shadow Sneak.

Overview
Deoxys Defense does not possess the same awe-inspiring fame that its other focused forms do. Though there are several things going for it that help it epitomize its role. Fantastic defenses as expected along with the invaluable reliable Recover give Deoxys Defense the staying power you expect. Its role as an entry hazard setter has been bolstered with the rise of Defog, where it is more important that hazard setters have staying power to setup hazards repeatedly. And the same famed Deoxys movepool shines with Deoxys Defense, giving it several support options and reliable offense in Night Shade. All while sitting at the legendary standard 90 Speed.
However, that is where the good ends. Deoxys Defense has the selfsame base HP of its other forms -a pitiful 50, which sabotages most attempts at defending. A horrible mono-Psychic typing leaves Deoxys Defense with few resistances and a typing that everyone is prepared for thanks to the numerous other Psychic types running around. Deoxys Defense finds itself outclassed by other defensive staples who have superior effective bulk (like Giratina and Lugia), or typing (Dialga, Arceus Steel), irrespective of their ability to recover..
PositivesTitanic Base 160 Defenses and Recover give Deoxys Defense decent staying power, able to weather repeated assaults.
Wide utility movepool including Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Knock Off, and Teleport gives Deoxys Defense numerous support options.
Pressure synergizes well with its playstyle, sapping the uses of powerful moves.
Negatives
Base 50 HP really lets Deoxys Defense down, preventing it from taking hits from the truly powerful foes it contends with.
Poor typing gives it no viable resistances and exposure to all entry hazards, further compromising its ability to wall.
Deoxys Defense is incredibly passive and can act as setup fodder for other Pokémon.

EVs and Nature:

Calm Nature
Deoxys Defense acts as a persistent Spikes setter, throwing them up several times during a match to counteract the efforts of opposing Defoggers. Recover gives it staying power, preventing Deoxys Defense from being worn down as quickly by attacks and entry hazards. Teleport enables Deoxys Defense to act as a slow pivot, getting in an ally unscathed and serves to counter predicted switches. Night Shade rounds out the set, being reliable consistent damage that allows Deoxys Defense to pick off its foes regardless of Deoxys Defense's Attack
Dynamax
Deoxys is unable to Dynamax at the time of this writing.
EVs and Items
Max HP and Special Defense to make Deoxys Defense as specially bulky as possible thanks to the numerous Special Attackers running around in unrestricted Brilliant Diamond Shining Pearl. An argument can be made for max Defense investment given how oppressive Arceus and Rayquaza can be. Leftovers is heavily recommended to get every inch out of Deoxys Defense as possible, though if unavailable, Sitrus Berry and Colbur Berry make for acceptable substitutes.
Partners
Arceus Dark is likely the best partner for Deoxys Defense. Thanks to the rarity of Bug moves in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl legends, most super effective answers will be either Dark or Ghost which Arceus Dark can answer easily.
Lugia makes for a fantastic partner as the best phazer around, able to foce switches and rack up repeated damage with the entry hazards Deoxys Defense sets up, though other Whirlwind/Roar users like Skarmory, can be considered as well.
Clefable and Arceus Fairy answer the many Dragon types running around, giving Deoxys Defense a reliable pivot option so it isn't blown out by Draco Meteor. Clefable's access to Wish and Aromatherapy make it an admirable Cleric as well.
Gastrodon is a reliable answer into Kyogre's Water Spout, which is an other potent wall breaking tool.
Other Options
Taunt -Prevents Deoxys Defense from being setup fodder.
Knock Off -Item Disruption is still incredibly powerful, even if Deoxys Defense's Attack stat is left wanting.
Toxic Spikes/Stealth Rock -Deoxys Defense has access to all entry hazards -take whichever ones fit your team best.
Toxic -requires Transfer, but Deoxys Defense's best method for passive damage.
Psycho Shift -niche, but punishes Statusing Deoxys Defense
Cosmic Power -Make Deoxys Defense even more unkillable, but considering how most offensive threats setup faster than Deoxys Defense and it has no reliable status recovery makes this a bit inconsistent.
Checks & Counters
Wallbreakers are Deoxys Defense's bane, able to blow by its prodigious defenses through sheer power. Kyogre easily stands out, its Water Spout cleanly 2HKOing Max Special Defense Deoxys Defense when Scarfed and OHKOing after a Specs or Calm Mind boost. Other Choice Specs users like Dialga can also blow past a softened Deoxys Defense.
Faster Setup Sweepers also give Deoxys Defense a rough time, able to setup before Deoxys Defense can taunt them and rip through it with their boosted moves. Extremekiller Arceus, Swords Dance Rayquaza, and Nasty Plot Mewtwo are all examples that can rip through Deoxys Defense unless it catches them on the Switch with Taunt.
Deoxys Defense is also rather exposed to status. It cannot shake off Toxic or Burn without a team mate, which will compromise its walling ability and further expand the pool of targets that can take it out.

Overview
Deoxys Speed may be mourning its lost crown as the fastest Pokémon, but since Regieleki and Deoxys Speed are currently not legal in the same games, Deoxys Speed can still hold its head high as the fastest Pokémon around. And that Speed serves Deoxys Speed well. Being faster than anything and only outsped by Base 110 Speed Pokémon with a Choice Scarf is incredibly valuable, ensuring Deoxys Speed can act without disruption.
However, Deoxys Speed’s offenses is not anything special and even when boosting lacks the power, to make the most of its expansive offensive moveset. Additionally, its traditionally best set, the Suicide Lead has taken a huge hit with the rise of Defog, meaning that Entry Hazards are no longer as persis
PositivesBase 180 Speed is nigh impossible to outspeed bar niche circumstances
Deoxys great movepool gives it a tool for most situations
Negatives
Offenses are below average and without Nasty Plot or Swords Dance, it is hard for Deoxys Speed to boost to an actual threatening level.
Unimpressive defenses prevent Deoxys Speed from taking standard attacks from other legends, leading it dependent on Focus Sash for longevity.

EVs and Nature:
252 HP / 156 Def / 100 Spe
Timid Nature
Suicide Lead Deoxys is meant to hit the ground running and start out its team in an advantageous state. Stealth Rock is reliable guaranteed damage on anything except Magic Guard Clefable. Taunt shuts down opposing setup attempts whether it be opposing Entry Hazards, Defog, other setup sweepers, etc. Light Screen and Reflect bring longevity to Deoxys Speed’s entire team, enabling them to survive attacks they otherwise shouldn’t and run roughshod on the opponent.
Dynamax
Deoxys is unable to Dynamax at the time of this writing.
EVs and Items
Max HP to give Deoxys Speed as much bulk as possible to ward off opposing priority. Timid Nature + 100 Speed EVs guarantees Deoxys Speed outspeeds Scarf Kyogre, with the remaining going into Defense so Deoxys Speed can stomach 3 unboosted Extremespeeds from Arceus. Light Clay is preferred as it gives the most duration on screens, though if not running Screens, Focus Sash is recommended to guarantee Deoxys Speed survives one hit.
Partners
This set fits best on Hyper Offense teams that apply pressure so that the opponent does not get an opening to Defog. Powerful hitters like ExtremesKiller Arceus, Kyogre, Nasty Plot Mewtwo all love the support Deoxys Speed brings, making it easier for them to reach KOs, and attack without fear of being attacked back.
Other Options
Spikes -most Stealth Rock resistant targets are grounded, so even a single layer helps bring the average damage up.
Nasty Plot -In theory Deoxys Speed could make a potent setup sweeper with Nasty Plot and its choice of moves, but in reality, it is so easily brought down to Focus Sash while setting up and fails to threaten a OHKO on anything it can’t strike super effectively even after Nasty Plot.
.
Checks & Counters
Deoxys Speed is not a difficult target to KO, nor is its direct damage impressive. What makes Deoxys Speed so dangerous is its ability to enable its far more dangerous teammates into a state where it is impossible to come back from.
Priority can stop Deoxys Speed in its tracks, preventing it from setting up as much as it would like. However, one must be aware that Deoxys Speed is bulky enough to often take multiple priority attacks from full, so you it will have to be weakened with other moves before priority. Furthermore, the priority move coming to prevent Deoxys Speed from setting up can be predicted and become a free switch in to one of Deoxys Speed’s bulkier teammates.
Defog is the best way to disrupt Deoxys Speed as it often only gets one chance to setup and rarely has another chance to do so. However, Deoxys Speed is excellent at blocking Defog with Taunt, so Defogging post Speed Deoxys

Animé Appearences
Deoxys has made a few appearances in the anime. Most notably, it has been routinely seen battling with Rayquaza. |
