The Platinum set is the eighth fourth generation set and the first in the Platinum series. This set focuses on many of the features and Pokémon within the game; Pokémon Platinum. As such, the Pokémon Shaymin & Giratina, as well as the other legendary Pokémon have a massive focus in this set, with Dialga having as many as 5 cards in the set itself. This set also continues with the retro cards and secret holographic cards that were introduced in the previous set.
This set did bring in several new features. First is the Lost Zone. This zone is used in the manner of the discard pile. However, any card put in the Lost Zone cannot be retrieved. This set also introduced Pokémon SPs. These Pokémon are similar to Owner's Pokémon in previous sets in that they are Pokémon that are owned by certain people. This set introduces them with Team Galactic's Pokémon. These are all basic Pokémon and have their own card style. Their trainer is displayed on the card as well.
