To tie in with the release of the Virtual Console editions of Pokémon Red, Green, Blue & Yellow, a faceplate New Nintendo 3DS was released in Europe & Japanfeaturing the sprites of Pokémon from Pokémon Red & Green

To tie in with the release of the Virtual Console editions of Pokémon Red, Green, Blue & Yellow, a New Nintendo 3DS was released in the US that featured face plates based on the original boxart of Pokémon Red & Blue. They also included special themes ffor the 3DS Home Menu

To tie in with Pokémon's 20th anniversary, the original games were released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. This allowed for players to play through the games once again with the promise of Pokémon Bank connectivity at a later point.

In Japan, these were also released as physical editions with a magnet based on the cartridge, a map of Kanto and stickers

To tie in with the release of Generations, the year was deemed the year of Mythical Pokémon and throughout the year, certain products themed around Mythical Pokémon were released including Plush, Figures and the TCG boxes. These Mythical Pokémon were also distributed to Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire

To celebrate Pokémon's 20th anniversary, the special mobile phone app, Pokémon Photo Booth, later shortened to Pokémeme, was released. This allowed you to add overlays to your photos from the Pokémon video games

To celebrate Pokémon Day, The Pokémon Company International hosted a special event on Twitch featuring various personalities discussing and playing Pokémon for 8 hours. Once complete, a 24 hour marathon of movies and anime episodes was released
