Slateport City is the first city in Hoenn to not contain a gym, but it contains a variety of places to explore. First, in the west there is a small market which sells a variety of items. It also has a museum filled with various relics and a harbour where you can travel via the SS Tidal to a variety of areas.

Name Changer
In the north part of the city, you will find an old man who will rate the nicknames of your Pokémon. He will also provide the service of changing the name of the Pokémon.

Effort Ribbon
In the marketplace, by the Energy Guru, there is a girl who will give you the Effort Ribbon if you have maxed out the Effort Values on your Pokémon.

Move Tutor
In Pokémon Emerald, within the Pokémon Fan Club is a man who will teach your Pokémon the move Swagger. This comes at no cost but can only be taught once.

Pokémon Contests
In Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire, there is a Contest Hall which features the Hyper Rank of Pokémon Contests. These contests cannot be accessed until your Pokémon have achieved the Super Rank located in Fallarbor Town.

Battle Tent
In Emerald, there is a battle Tent located in the city. This facility matches the mechanics of the Battle Factory and has the player select various Rental Pokémon and defeat trainers with the Pokémon
