New & Returning Mechanics
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX, as a remake of the originals, features a lot of the same mechanics and features as the originals including Hunger and more. However, it also includes several mechanics new to the series, or some introduced since the originals but with some twists.
Auto Mode |
|
When in a dungeon, you now have the ability to activate Auto Mode by pressing the L Button. This mode will have your Rescue Team automatically move around to try and find the stairs, picking up items along the way. As soon as they get up to a Pokémon, however, auto mode deactivates and you have to manually play. |

Awakening & Mega Evolution |
|
A feature introduced in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Awakening returns again. When you eat an Empowerment Seed, your Pokémon will get into the Awakened State. This powers up the Pokémon and causes Linked Moves to always Critical Hit and ignore abilities and type disadvantages This will also allow for Pokémon to Mega Evolve. |

Rare Qualities |
|
While the original Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game had IQ skills, special features that you gain as your Pokémon increase their intelligence, Rescue Team DX has simplified this into Rare Qualities. Sometimes, when you eat a Rainbow Gummi or a DX Gummi, your Pokémon will adopt a Rare Quality. These act as passive effects that give a variety of boosts which affect your entire party when a Pokémon with the Rare Quality is in your party. |
