Generation 5
Timespan: September 18th 2006 - October 11th 2013
Number of new Pokémon: 156
Number of new Moves: 91
Region: Unova
After Heart Gold & Soul Silver were released, the general consensus was the move to a new generation and February 2010 confirmed just that, with the reveal of Zorua and Zoroark to tie in with the movies and soon afterwards, Pokémon Black & White were revealed. Generation V was the first generation that was released on the same device as the previous generation, and this caused a fundamental shift in how the generation was dealt with. This generation acted, at first, as a soft reboot. In Black & White, you wouldn't see a single old Pokémon until after you have defeated the game. The game was also far more narrative focused than previous games. Mechanically, it didn't add too much, but the games implemented a more intricate 3D system, as well as Triple Battles and Rotation Battles. It also introduced interaction through the internet via a web portal known as the Pokémon Global Link.
