The Game Boy Color was a new iteration of the Nintendo Game Boy. Although similar in form factor and design to the original Game Boy, this model allowed for games to be released with 8-bit colour, as opposed to the monochromatic style of its predecessor. All previous Game Boy games were playable on it and many Game Boy Color games were playable on the original device, but some started being exclusive. Its first introduction to Pokémon was with Pokémon Gold & Silver, although the international releases of Pokémon Yellow adapted the Super Game Boy palette to act as a Game Boy Color title.

It was discontinued in March 2003
