The Nintendo Wii U was the successor to the Nintendo Wii and was Nintendo's first HD console. This device included a special controller, the Wii U GamePad, which contained a separate 853x480 screen that can mirror the Wii U's display or act as a different viewpoint for gameplay. The Nintendo Wii U also had full online capabilities including the Nintendo eShop and digital downloads. It initially came out in two variations: The Basic which was White with only 8GB of internal memory or the Premium which was Black with 32GB of internal memory. This could then be supplemented with external hard drives

Its first interaction with the Pokémon franchise occured with the digital title Pokémon Rumble U
