While moves based on slicing were in the game since the original Pokémon Red & Blue, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet introduced Slicing as a mechanic with Abilities tied to it. These moves were moves that basically were slices and cuts

Extra Effects By Slicing Moves

There are some other elements to Slicing Moves beyond just the moves existing. Most notably, the ability Sharpness will increase the power of Slicing moves by 50%.
