Gift Pokémon

Like previous games, there are a number of Pokemon that can be received from various characters in the game. For the most part the ways described on the page are the only way to get these Pokemon. There are, however, some exceptions.

#252 Treecko, #255 Torchic, #258 Mudkip

Location: Route 101

Method:
Naturally, the first Pokémon you obtain is the starter Pokémon. In this case however you immediately enter battle against the Poochyena that is attacking Professor Birch. Like in all games, once you have chosen your starter, your rival will pick the Pokémon that is super effective against yours.

#345 Lileep, #347 Anorith

Location: Route 111

Method:
Down in the deepest corners of Route 111 are two special fossils hidden past the Desert Ruins. On the desert floor you will find the fossils of two prehistoric Pokemon. Only one can be chosen - the other sinks into the sand, never to be found again. When handed over at Devon Corporation in Rustboro, a revived Pokemon will be later available. Lileep derives from the Root Fossil and Anorith from the Claw Fossil. Both are decent in their own right with unique typings not offered on any other Pokemon.

#351 Castform

Location: Weather Institute

Method:
After you rescue the scientists in the Weather Institute they will bestow on you the mysterious Pokemon Castform, whom Team Aqua or Magma were after. This Normal-type Pokemon can learn a variety of different elemental attacks and even changes ability in different weather - Fire-type in the sunshine, Water-type in heavy rain, and Ice-type in hail. Unfortunately it has no Rock-type form for sandstorm.

#360 Wynaut

Location: Lavaridge Town

Method:
Like in Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, there is an egg you are given that, upon hatching, will give you one of the new baby Pokemon, in this case Wynaut. Wynaut evolves into the very defensive Pokemon Wobbuffet, and adds some unique moves to the family that Wobbuffet cannot have in its very limited moveset.
