Like the past game, PokéPark 2 features a vast variety of Pokémon battles. As you can now control more Pokémon than just Pikachu, you have to think strategically when going up against the various Pokémon. Each of the Pokémon you battle has resistances and weaknesses to the various Pokémon you can be. As such, you need to make sure you have picked the right Pokémon for the battle

Double Tap D-Pad direction: Evade
1 Button: Dash Attack / Close Attacks
Hold 1 Button: Thunderbolt, Leaf Storm, Flamethrower, Water Pulse
2 Button: Jump
Shake Wii Remote: Iron Tail, Leaf Tornado, Heat Crash, Razor Shell

Each Pokémon you face up against has their own variety of attacks that can be used as projectiles or in close combat. Some of these attacks home in on you, others are easily avoidable. These attacks are also affected by the type of the Pokémon you are using. For example, Water based moves won't do much damage to Snivy while Fire based attacks will do more.

This is especially important within the Battle Tournaments, where you face up against three Pokémon and have to battle them without getting healed.

Unlike the past games, when you are low in health, you will have the ability to call upon a Pokémon you have befriended to aid you in battle. These Pokémon will come in and unleash a powerful attack, matching the type of them. This attack will then damage the Pokémon, taking in the various types into consideration. For example, Landorus is great against Reshiram, Charizard against Ferrothorn and so forth.

Not all Pokémon are able to be called into battle and, outside of the battle tournament, you have no choice over what Pokémon to call. However, it's typically a Pokémon with moves that are strong against the opponent.
