Following on from Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Legends: Z-A uses a quick clock where you have cycles for day and night that take a short amount of time
Daytime runs for 16 hours from 04:00 to 20:00 in-game time while night runs 8 hours from 20:00 game time to 04:00 game time. Each hour is approximately 2 minutes in real time.
The time of day has a variety of effects including the addition of the Battle Zones for Z-A Royales at night, and various Pokémon that spawn in the wild only spawn in certain times of day. Some will spawn at one time of day in one area and all day in other as well. For example, Noibat and Noivern will only spawn at night in Lumiose City, but if you go to Lumiose Sewers they will spawn regardless of the time of day.
Unlike Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, you can force the time to go forwards. If you sit at a bench, you will be able to skip to the start of the next cycle, so to the start of night or to the start of day.
When the time changes, the spawns in your viscinity will also refresh so they will change even if they're Pokémon that aren't specific to a time of day.
