Poké Radar

The Poké Radar makes its return in this game. This item is given by Professor Rowan after getting the National Pokédex and is a way of making a chain to get various rewards.

When you use it in a patch of grass, various other patches of grass will start shaking. When you go to the patch of grass and defeat the Pokémon, the chain will continue until either you run away from a Pokémon, you get a different Pokémon on the patch or the chain gets broken by another wild Pokémon appearing before you reach the patch of grass. To avoid the latter, be sure to use a Repel when making a Chain.

As the chain progresses, it gets more and more likely to break. You will get better odds going for the further grass patch, and if you capture the opposing Pokémon rather than just defeat it but only for the patches 4 away or more.

There is also a Pokétch app, the Chain Counter, which is obtained in Ramanas Park, which keeps track of your top 3 highest chains.

There are a few bonuses to using the Poké Radar. First is that in most areas, there's a Pokémon that's not found in the Sinnoh Pokédex available. Second is that each Pokémon in the chain has got a 1 in 128 chance of having their Hidden Ability. This rate cannot be improved. You can find these by the grass that they're in shaking more vigorously than the standard.

Next is the IVs, as the chain progresses, you get more guaranteed maximum IVs. At present this only works at 20, 30 40 and 100 chains.

The PokéRadar also has an increased Shiny Chance with each successful chain.
