Shadow Pokémon

Shadow Pokémon are a new feature found after you defeat a Team GO Rocket Grunt at a PokéStop. After they have been defeated, a wild Shadow Pokémon can be found.

Shadow Pokémon are distinguishable due to a purple shadow aura around then and deep red eyes. Shadow Pokémon have lower CP, being at a lower level, require 1.2* more Candy & Stardust to power up, and have the move Frustration. Shadow Pokémon cannot be traded.

As of February 2020, Shadow Pokémon now have a boost in the power of their moves by 20%, however, their Defenses are reduced to *0.8333 their usual meaning they will take more damage from attacks.

When you evolve a Shadow Pokémon. It keeps the move Frustration.

Shadow Pokémon can be returned to normal through the process of Purifying. This will return its look to normal and unlock the darkness in its heart. This is done with a cost of Stardust and Candy. The costs vary depending on species

1km Buddy Pokémon: 1,000 Stardust & 1 Candy
Starters & Standard: 3,000 Stardust & 3 Candy
10km Buddy Pokémon: 5,000 Stardust & 5 Candy

A purified Pokémon gains multiple levels up to Level 25, gain slight gains in its IVs of +2 per stat, and has a special boost by having a reduction in the amount of Stardust and Candy required to power it up: 10% on Candy and 20% on Stardust. It also has the move Return.

When you evolve a Purified Pokémon. It keeps the move Return.
